The Rolex Crown

Found this posted on another site by Jocke, said to my wife, look at the amount of engineering in a single watch crown, even she agreed it was impressive

And this is where Mr Wilsdorf from Rolex got the idea and patent from. Two Swiss watchmakers in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Paul Perregaux and Georges Peret, applied for a Swiss patent in 1925 for a screwed stem system.Wilsdorf grasped that a hermetically sealed case, together with careful fitting of the crystal and a special stem mechanism.Would make a waterproof watch.
So Wilsdorf negotiated to have the Perregaux and patent assigned to him.He then had a British patent put on it in October 18, 1926.And then in 1927 Mercedes Gleitze, swam the English Channel with a wristwatch on her wrist for the 15 hour swim and thats when the Rolex Oyster was born.

screwed stem system.
Perregaux and Peret patent 1925.
