Let this be a warning ......

I think you have to read this post on another forum

I started the post on the purists and can't copy the entire post here
But really worth seeing and reading it

http://patek.watchprosite.com/show-f...-about-a-5070/

A friend was ready to buy this watch and asked my advice first
In the beginning I had doubts but the closer I looked , the worse it got

Believe me, this is scary stuff
Unfortunately very well done

So please be very very very careful when buying watches
I never thought a 5070 could look so close to the original
This is not a 100usd copy
I'm sure many would be scammed
I informed the dealer who is selling this watch because I believe he was scammed too ... I hope he can trace the person who sold him this piece

All the more reason to confirm provenance, original boxes, receipts, service records, extracts, certificate of origin, etc.

A 50k+ watch is a good incentive to spend time and cash faking.

For this reason I love Patek because its one of the few out there who monitors and registers the history of nearly every watch sold.

I hope nobody got ripped off with this example. It sucks that this kind of thing happens, but in the end it is also an ultimate compliment

What's even more scary is that there are people out there doing it better than that too.

The movement is actually a mess, just look at the chrono bridge, at all the levers, at the shockproof device, at the small balance wheel ...

without another in your hand for a comparison , i could see how this could go very very wrong , very quickly.
but with numbers that would buy you a new car , its not a surprise.

Thanks Bruno. A very good reminder that we need to always be vigilant. Although judging by recent comments on here, maybe the fakes are now even better than the real thing!!

Wow that's a high end fake! I've seen some scary real fakes that even stumped me. There was one website I came across a few months ago that is known for being the best watch fakers. If I find it again I'll post a like for you guys too look. It's stunning

Wow.
Surely this didn't have papers or a box right.
That can't be forged as well; I hope?

You would be surprised. I think box and papers would be easier to fake imo

I guess an authentication is always a must then.
Movement in the case + papers won't match on a fake. Worth paying the extra $$ to authenticate it from Patek.
Lesson for me for sure!

Thanks OP!

Terrible news for such a highly regarded watch to be smeared with the presence of fakes.

Just remember: papers alone isnt proper verifiaction. Always cross check the papers and documents with the records by contacting your AD or Patek directly. It might take time, but spending this kind of cash in a hurry or under time pressure should always be avoided. I made that mistake myself once and got a very lucky escape from that near miss.

The things I notice are the screws. They are all messed up.

I am new to Patek. But to me, the most obvious to me are the screws. They are all messed up. It is possible that it was service at on point by a hack but it did not come from Patek this way, for sure.

I agree, it looks more or less like the real one but the finishing is awful, so it's still possible to see it's a fake IMO without too much problems, even if it's a good fake, I'm sure some watchmakers can make much better fakes than that, scary, that's why I buy very very carefully always, the poor guy who gets a 100K fake
