Oysterdate precision ref 6066
I found this watch on an eBay listing for $975. The seller claims it was made in 1952. Is this a good purchase? If I buy this watch would it be worth servicing?

Whoops....
I started out with it's not a bad price if you like the watch. That case has a SERIOUS issue on one lug and there is major pitting. I'd probably pass at that price with that much case issue. The crystal is SO wrong...and I'm not sure how it is even on the watch. This crystal is a new style cyclops crystal...made for watches that the bezel goes OVER the crystal and sandwiches it between the bezel and the rehaute. This watch NEVER had a cyclops crystal and uses a compression fit type in a fixed bezel. Otherwise it appears all original. The movement is VERY simple adaptation of the 10.5 hunter. The calendar is slow set and not even quick change. It uses a double toothed hour wheel to turn the calendar wheel. Very very simple stuff. The 10.5 is a good movement and this version is shock resisting so it probably hasn't been staffed a bunch of times and likely would keep good time once serviced. |
