GMT Bezel Inserts

I see many of you who have the GMT also get the bezel inserts. Do you get them direct from your AD, or fro Rolex, or from another source?

My AD tells me that I cannot order and change the inserts, that Rolex will not allow that.

Can someone shed some light.....

Thanks!
FW.....

Yep, they are hard to get...

but apparently, easier in Europe. Check out a few of the other GMT threads and you will read of others who can get replacement bezel inserts, but in the US, its nearly impossible without exchanging the original.

Shipping rolex/Rolex items from Europe is also against export laws, so ordering them from Europe is out of the question (I tried).

Sheldon is pretty much spot on!! Unless you know a person in Europe that can source them for you and ship them in an envelope. There are ways, though not always the easiest.

My AD ordered the pepsi and the black for me when I bought mine. They were $75 US a piece, but I have to let them do the install or I will void the warranty. They also said that I am allowed to keep the swapped out bezel

You'll not only "void the (goddamn) warranty", you'll screw the mother of the watch!

There is nothing wrong with having a couple of pieces left over

That's right, tosser!! After you've finished with the watch, the only "couple of pieces left over" will be the bezel and the insert!! I think your watch will look something like this!!

damn C.J. thats good news.... AD's actualy doing something good and logical But, it's easy enough to get the inserts and swap out yourself even if the price does sound correct!

I know you can get the bezels here in Canada. Rolex Canada are a little more lenient than the despots who run RUSA.

When I bought my GMT II I had the AD install the Pepsi insert. I then ordered the black from an aquaintance in Europe (about $60 - $75 as I recall). It arrived within a couple of weeks. I went to a non-AD jeweler who was happy to change them for me at a cost of maybe $20.

As Padi says, it's a relatively easy job except for the very small ratchet spring designed to fly away and find the best hiding spot within 50'. Most of your time will be spent looking for it if you're not expecting this.

The major caveat I would put forth is to be sure it's original Rolex. There are MANY cheap copies of inserts in the market and they won't fit your bezel.

If I tried to do it myself, there would definitely be pieces left over

ROFLMAO, Richard sounds like you have tried the age old art of changeing an insert?

See I"m more lucky in that department as with the vintage GMT there is no ratchet spring :op Turns both ways, I'm not saying it swings both ways just that it turns both ;o)

Never tried it myself, Earl. I've been around long enough to be willing to admit my limitations.

Actually, I was forwarned by a friend who still has a piece of shag carpet in his shop area. "Quoth the raven, 'nevermore, nevermore.'"
