The history and being a Rolex would point me against the Omega although the Globemaster is a nice watch. Explorer1 a classic now even better.

I think I'm going to wait for the new explorer. I just really like the lumed numerals. Though I'm sure I could get a sweet deal on a "shorty" from an AD. However, no need to settle when buying a Rolex for over 5k.

Any explorer - hands down.

But if you have a hankering for an explorer-esque omega, check out a railmaster or an aquaterra.

the real competitor for the explorer would be the railmaster i think ... but in each case i would take the explorer 39mm

Globemaster or Explorer I

Agree on the railmaster equivalent. I think, however, that both the Globemaster, explorer, and even a djii would serve the same role for me.

A watch that can be worn in pretty much any situation. Sure, an explorer or Omega AT or railmaster appear much sportier, but they would look at home with a suit. The same goes for a dj or Globemaster with more casual wear.

These are versatile watches that indeed have their certain design languages, but really have little limitations as far as situational wear. To be honest, I could say that for the majority of Rolex's collection.
