5167 w/ 315 vs 324

Another thread brought me to bringing up this question as I've been looking at the 5167 from some time. I've come to learn that the 5167 when it originally debuted had the 315 in it and the was quickly phased out for the 324. I've read that there 'may have' been as little as 150 of these produced but no evidence to back it up. I realize that both are reliable and that the main difference is the power reserve on the 315 is slightly longer, while that 324 has 28k oscillations vs the 315's ~21k, which improves accuracy.

That being said, is a 5167 with a 315 movement something that might be sought after or seen as more of a collectible or just something that is merely outdated?...and therefore less expensive?

Merely outdated. The 315 is a very common movement.

So probably not worth saving 2-3k for what you're think is merely a dated watch?

Fully agree.

I wouldn't think that there is any collectable aspect to spending extra money or looking for one with that movement.

Saving $2-3K for an older watch with an older movement is not a bad deal.

Caliber 315 was a robust movement that was used in Patek watches for 20+ years.

My thought is that a lot of the residual loss would be out at that price vs a new one at $16k or so, however that is unfamiliar territory to me

Get the Newest 5167 you can find,

No matter how you look at it, either version of that particular Patek movement is nothing to write home about... They get the job done but aren't really all that special.

Well, another dilemma might be if you want to switch from the plastic to the metal band. The older 5167 can't whereas newer versions can. Call Patek and give them the first few SN of the watch and they'll know.

Good point, however I like the rubber. The metal kills the look IMO

Visually, agree as the rubber was my preference too. Wore it (324 S C movement) for years as a daily beater and she was wonderful. Just remember if your wrist/body is cool in temp, size the band a bit larger to account for hotter temps that expand the body (as does long air travel).

Hey also the sticky date is something to consider and almost was enough for me to grab the 315 before turning you into it!

I'll have to go back and look at your thread RE the date sticking issue. Have not read much into it yet. Thanks for the heads up
