New GMT - "Yes" and "NO!"

Word has it that Rolex has released a new GMT at Basel with the Maxi Dial, new movement etc.

The unfortunate news is that you can only get it in yellow gold/stainless steel two tone. Alternatively, you can get it with jewels i.e. diamonds rubies etc on the bezel in solid 18k gold.

If you were thinking Rolex was going to bring out a pure and simple stainless steel GMT with the maxi dial, try next year or maybe the year after

Hi JJ, :-)

Yes, all solid. I don't think we'll see any more "folded tin" bracelets from Rolex anymore. (Aside from the models that have not yet been updated.)

I like this one, but I'll probably wait for all-steel in a year or so. Somehow I think I can find something else on which to piss away my money for now. ;-)

If they come out with a SS model in 2007 or 2008 then they should be in the stores buy 2009 or 2010. I don't think I'll wait for any myself. =) maverick

That's always an issue with Rolex. I still haven't seen any of the new Prince models to try to deal on, and they've already announced new dials for them.

We'll probably see the new SS/18K GMT in stores around October. (a guess) I don't mind waiting for the new steel one, as I already have trouble choosing which watch to wear every day. ;-)

By the time they replace the "folded tin" hollow link bracelets on the SS Sport models, they will cost $6K factoring in the new bracelet and inflation. I'll suffer with the LV and SD that I now have.

Hi Peter,

So nice to see you back on TRF. How is Maureen and how are you keeping, pal? Now, don't be a stranger no more and let us have some of your old humour.

JJ

I like it too. I'm not saying I'd rush out and buy it, but I think it's a nice looking watch.

Hi JJ,

We are doing well. Maureen is being a bad Rolex owner -- dropping it on the hard kitchen floor, leaving it lying on the stairs where someone might step on it, and so forth. I might have to get her an extra one, in case she breaks one. ;-)

I haven't had much interest in watches lately, but I just sold a couple of cars, so I might have to waste some money on a watch or two. I also need to get to the Swatch store to pick up a few models with furry straps.

I hope all is well with you. :-)

Peter

Hi Peter,

Good to see you. Maybe we will have to compromise and get some two-tones. It could be a long wait for the steel version. ;-)
