Submariner Chamfers/Bevels

Question: When did Rolex stop putting bevels/chamfers on the lugs. I saw a 1990s sub (16610) the other day which had bevelled lugs, but the newer 16610s dont seem to have them...

What are you talking about, can you post a close-up photo of a newer 16610 (unpolished) that doesn't have bevels on the lugs. My 1991 16610 and my 2010 16610 LV both never polished appear to have very slight bevels on their lugs looking at them under a loup, unless your definition and my definition of bevel is different.

And to the point, ROLEX used to just cut the most beautiful rounded chamfers and now that is a lost art !

Example...

OK, but are those real chamfers or bevelled chamfers?

Sorry...

To answer your query, it was prolly around 2010, that chamfers disappeared from 16610 transition to 116610 "Super cases"

16610 does have them, but the chamfer is very small - maybe less than a mm; just a slight "break" of the corner as seen here on my K serial 16610, production around 2000 year...

See, barely a hi-polish line seen here of chamfer...

Excellent Steelinox! Big difference between a chamfer cut and a bevel. Look at the corners of most concrete structures they have chamfer edges. Basic terms cutting a 45 degree angle equal on a 90 degree corner. That is a chamfer.
Aloha from Kauai.

Wondering if one of you members are adding up the total of my angles! Just realized do not have any engineer answer your questions after sucking down cold Sam Adams! Hahahahahahaha.

Yes the beers are cold and tasty on Kauai!

Hahaha, love the responses! I have a 5513 with clear chamfers but in the modern subs I sometimes dont see them - not sure whether it was because they stopped or because the ones I have seen have had them polished off...

Side note: I have seen some more recent 16610s that have been polished to sell, and the polisher has added chamfers, presumably because they are a desirable quality on older models? Just something I have found interesting to note...

Interestingly, I asked myself the same question when i saw a 16610 with chamfers that were more pronounced that I have seen before - had they been added? Hence my initial question at the top of this thread - because I thought that the 16610 did not have these pronounced chamfers.

This is another reason I love this forum. I have often read posts about polished vs. non polished and I spend a good amount of time comparing my watch to the pictures I see posted. I had no idea what a chamfer was or wasn't before today but have often admired this specific detail of my watch. I don't have a camera other than my iPhone so I'm hoping this photo catches what I believe this thread is about. My 16610 is a P Serial.

Submariner Chamfers/Bevels

16610's indeed have a very small chamfer from factory, at least that is the case on my S series 16610

Very educational, even if it is an old thread. Thank you for reviving it. Love the photos from Bluemartinifan.
