What can you tell me about this Tudor 79260?

I like these watches very much, but it's quite difficult to find some info related to Tudor's history and models. I've found this 79260 which I think is quite special. Circa 1997, it must be something like a transitional model, since it has the Tudor crown and back, but it has the oyster bracelet. It also has a silver dial with patina/black subdials, being it a "Prince Date", and not an Oysterdate, without the "TIGER" emblem. What do you think?

From the limited pics it looks to be a legit 79260. Not too unusual for any 792XX to sport an Oyster bracelet. Early versions also had Rolex crown, case back, and Oysterdate dial. The later 792XXP series with polished lugs can usually be found with leather strap [end links and Tudor deployant clasp] or Tudor jubilee.

looks nice to me - I have owned a 2005 72960p since November last year and it is a beautiful watch and still undervalued in the market place at present imo

It's a constant debate the TIGER on the dial isn't it?
Some people like it because it reminds them of the big red daytonas! Others just hate it, me included! But there is something for every taste! Again a very nice watch! Go for it!

Any of you have seen one of these pre tiger models, which are starting to look quite classic/vintage IMO, with some vintage leather strap? I would like to see how that looks like...

it's hard to tell which version (pre/post) from those pictures. you will need to see photos of the crown side and case back to get a better idea.

Well people, I bought it and it has just arrived. Could you help me identifying if all the parts are period correct?

The watch is a B98XXXX, the endlinks 605, and the bracelet 78400

All those numbers are correct for a 79260.

Great choice, looks like you've found a nice pre-Tiger example.
I believe the serial no. points it as a 1998.

Mine is a pre-Tiger as well but came with a Rolex crown (some pre-Tigers can have both Rolex Oyster stamped case back and Rolex crown; or, either one or the other).

Are you sure that it is a pre tiger and not a post tiger that came back from a RSC?

You dial says Prince date. And the pre tigers came with both case back and Rolex crown.

Furthermore yours is the polished lug one as mine.

Mine is an H series.

What is the series in yours?

This is more like distressed leather rather than vintage but I guess you get the idea.
I guess I am one of the very few who don't actually like the Tudor end links for leather straps.
I think the watch without them feels and looks much much better

They are out there, you see one for sale every now and again, I think one of the trusted sellers has one, maybe not the exact model but something very similar.

Mine is a B96XXXX as mentioned in my previous thread http://www.rolexforums.com/showpost....45&postcount=1

From what I understand, some 792x0 models post big block and pre tiger come with variations that can have both Rolex Oyster stamped case back and Rolex crown; OR either one or the other.

RSC will only change parts that are like for like. For a vintage/old Tudor, if it originally comes with a Rolex crown, only then will they fit a new Rolex crown for the full movement overhaul service

When I bought mine from the original (second) owner, we had the deal done at RSC for verification as I wanted to be sure of the 'transitional' nature of the watch he had advertised.

Also since it had no service history, I had it serviced and RSC affixed the Rolex crown as per original.

That is really interesting. So the polished lugg option came even before the TIGER endorsement?

I'm looking to purchase this vintage pre tiger 79260 .
Could anyone tell me a little more about these..? Are the transitional signed Rolex crown and case back ones worth more.? How much should I be paying for an excellent condition no box or papers?
As far as I can tell everything is correct based on oyster date dial and Rolex bits.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Everything seems correct. Such a nice find.
This is a pre tiger, early 79260. It is correctly signed Rolex all around and the dial is marked as oyster date rather than prince date.
The Rolex signed specimens seem to be a bit more desirable than the Tudor ones which also seem to be slightly more desirable than the tiger ones!
As far as prices go, vintage Tudor chronographs seem to be on the rise. eBay and chrono24 would probably give you a good indication.
They are amazing watches and this example seems in good condition

Here is me post tiger 79260p next to my 79170 big block!

79260 Tudor chrono

Thanks for the info.

I can't seem to find much info on prices for these.
Would 3k be steep to pay for these pre tiger oyster date dial with signed Rolex crown and case back.?

I wouldn't say so. That actually sounds quite cheap for it under the current market...
