Rolex Oysterdate 1962 repair

Hello everyone, my first post. I have a 1962 Rolex Oysterdate my father gave me some 40 years ago. I stopped using it about 15 years ago because the winding crown broke (went past the limit and would not wind). This was the second or third time it had broken and I kind of gave up (it had been sent to Rolex Switzerland for repair).

Recently I took it out of the safe and into Rolex Madrid. They have given me an estimate of €1100 for a complete restaurantion. They say that due to the age of the watch it has no guarantee.

What do you think? Is it worth it, or should I leave it in the safe?

Many thanks.

Personally I'd take it to an independent and have the movement repaired but leave the exterior as it is. Rolex will restore all the character out of the watch.

And will be probably a lot cheaper, but whatever make it work and wear it

Get it fixed, you'll get atwo year warrantee on the overhaul. Just make sure they leave the plate, hands and exteriior untouched.

I had my 1655 fixed last year and it also set me back E1100,- So the price is not excessive since there a few parts like the plexi that that they'll always need to change. But I can't advise on an independant in Spain.
