This thread
Yesterday I bought an Eterna made Birks Challenger with an Eternamatic movement measuring in at 33mm. Can't wait to get it back from my watchmaker, put it on a black/white stitched leather strap and wear the hell outta that tiny watch. So much concern, and gnashing of teeth over the size of your watch. I guess that's one thing some men feel they can control the size of In honour of this thread I'll wear my JLC Reverso Classic to dinner tonight. That should get some looks. |

I also have seen many Asian men wearing mid sized DD's and DJ's.

Oh well. Better experimenting with trying on women's watches for some forum fun than other articles of female attire

As a Man, I just recently purchased a 26mm Yellow Gold Rolex DJ
Sorry to revive an old (yet interesting) thread… I came across this thread while doing a Google search and realized I am also a member of this forum. I suppose you can say I am a new member since despite joining in 2011, I have only posted once before now. I just wanted to share a bit about myself, and my views on this.
As a Man, I just recently purchased a 26mm Yellow Gold Rolex DJ with President Bracelet. I think it looks great and ultimately that is what matters. I collect as well as wear all kinds of watches from brand new in box to vintage wristwatches to antique pocket and pendant/lapel watches, for both Men & Women…. I tend to ignore the stated size of the watch, whether it is marketed towards Men or Women and just wear what I like – regardless of the intended market. I have been recently wearing a pendant watch that is attached to a brooch that I pin in the lapel of my suit jacket. I think it looks very elegant and I have received a number of compliments! Having read many online forums (and this thread, among others), I am aware that many watch aficionados have very strong stylistic and size preferences when it comes to wristwatches so I am sure that my choices may raise some eyebrows but I am confident enough to wear what I like and do not need approval or appreciation from others. I am NOT fond of big watches and in my opinion, people started wearing them to stand out when watch sizes were much smaller but now it seems like that big is the norm… Perhaps sizes will revert to smaller sizes after people get bored of big watches but that is just my opinion. I do like being different and perhaps one could say I am eccentric. 31mm and 36mm sized watches would be okay, (for me)… but I feel anything over 40mm is just too big. If anyone is interested in seeing pictures of my smaller sized watches, I will gladly post. With that said, I think the Leopard Daytona looks great and could see myself wearing one in the future. Beautiful watch! |

Just wear what you want. Remember the horological significance and the pleasing aesthetic experience you get from the Rolex be it 34mm 36mm 39mm or 40mm. Remember you are wearing a Rolex, it should last longer than any fashion fad. I like smaller watches and it doesn't make me less of a man than someone who wears 42mm - 50mm. Just because someone has an older watch it is nothing to be ashamed of. If it bothers you, wear it under the cuff, it is safer there from dings and thieves. So many people end up being unhappy because the watch they want to wear is not politically correct so they wear a watch that does not speak to them.
