How could Rolex tell if the case back had been opened?

Not seen a comment around this, but are you intending to keep the watch and just wear it ??

If you are what's the problem ?? Just use it as is. The reduced value is only a factor if you sell it. Don't know who the company is but I'm sure there were similar comments many yrs ago when someone asked

"Should I buy this Rolex, some idiot has has Comex printed on the dial"

Heard stories of people having them sent away to have dials changed !!!!!

Offer a bit less and see what they say. Sounds like it's a few hundred less than the new price anyway

Doesnt look like engraving to me. More like etching, which can be easily removed. Press for the best discount.

The savings would need to be substantial to justify the trouble, imo.

I had a simmilar situation not long ago and I passed on a Sophia Loren, discount did not cover the cost of a new caseback... "people, dont let your casebacks grow up to be engraved"... no? Can't picture it as a country song?

Duuuude, somebody offers me an unworn DSSD Deep Blue for a $5,000 discount just because it has a logo in the back and I will buy it immediately...logo is irrelevant, it could be the ISIS flag for all I care.

Well, no, I think there are exceptions, maybe the ISIS flag, a Swastika, or that ridiculous logo that spells Coexist with all the religious symbols.

Other than that, I would take it. :D

Exceptions? It takes 5 minutes to drop the bracelet and fine grit sandpaper the caseback. Well worth it for any discount on an otherwise brand new watch. Even more so if it can be done whilst laughing madly as you remove a motif you dislike.

no one is going to see the back of the watch so who cares? do you not plan on owning it long? in my opinion I would use this as a negotiating tool and tell them you are thinking about getting it as a gift for someone and you want to engrave the back, so they either need to replace it with a new back themselves or give you a big enough discount to buy a new back case for it...

and then I would just keep it on there and IF you sell it in the future expect to give the next guy a little bit of a discount, but its not like it devalues the watch that much, at the end of the day its a ROLEX and like I said no one is going to see it while its on your wrist so who cares?
