10 y.o. 14060M hands lume doesn't glow as much as the dial
Hi gents.
My 14060M hands sometimes appears not to glow with the same intensity as the indexes in the dial. However, if I put the watch for some seconds under the sunlight or a direct light, then the entire watch seems to glow evenly. I only notice this different intensity (very faint difference, I can't take a pic of it) when it's not under a direct light and the lume gets charged with a weaker point of light. I don't know the service history of this watch (I'm not the original owner) and if the hands have been replaced, but it's only 10 years old, why would the hands be replaced in the first place? Is it possible that the lume in the hands started to fade away earlier than the dial? Thanks |

I would say it would come down to the concentration of lume. Much less lume on the hands than the dial.

I would think the areas with more surface area would absorb the light quicker.

This is my new 114060 and you can see that the hands glow a bit less brightly than the indices.

I have the same 'problem' and frankly it annoys me a bit. I have a Z serial. It's starting to get worse by the years. Mainly after a few hours the difference is quite present.

I have a 14060M that's around the same age
The lume on that isn't great in the first place, and also the hands typically glow weaker than the indices in normal circumstances. Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My D serial (2005) GMT2 does the same thing. Annoying, but I've learned to live with it.
Don't have that problem on all my newer pieces with blue lume and maxi hands/dial. I wonder how they will look in 10 years. |

It's rather typical of the Rolex models with either of the variants of Luminova.
It's actually quite rare for the lume on them to be of equal intensity between the hands(less luminous) and the dial and they've always been that way from new. One could almost be justified in saying it's a feature of the models and one is lucky if there is equal intensity. Newer models with Cromalight are seemingly consistent and it's one of the main reasons why I have gone over to wearing DSSD's. |
