Rolex 1803 Wide Boy Your Opinion?!

Hi all forum members!

I am new here but I have, for some weeks, silently read the threads and tried to learn as much as I can. I guess some of the most knowledgeable Rolex folk are al here.

Anyway, here is a watch I have long wanted but would very much like your opinion on. what do you think of this Rolex 1803? Any, all thoughts and opinions appreciated!

I think it looks great, it's been polished but looks nice and clean. If the price is right, I say go for it. Love wb dials and hands, by the way.

Thanks Michael.

I've noticed that a 1803 with Presidential bracelet goes for a lot more, typically $+4000, over a strap one?

Personally, I think that 1803 looks fantastic on the leather. It would certainly be noce to have the bracelet, but chances are I'd be wearing it on the leather.

I think it's reasonable. Better when the dollar was at 1.60. Nice looking watch.

Price isn't out of line IMO. But you're limiting yourself to straps forever if you buy without a bracelet, because you won't find a bargain bracelet for this watch here or anywhere else, it may cost you the same as the head and be difficult to find. I paid double what you're looking at for a WG 1803 from Jacek but the bracelet was the motivation, I wouldn't have bought the watch without it.

If you love the watch on strap and are not a bracelet guy I'd say go for it.

Is the last picture the same watch? It's not the same strap, so just pointing that out.

I paid about the same for mine several months ago and I absolutely love it . So I do not think the price is out of line.

I sold one just like it a few months ago for $4500, if that helps. I think yours is nice but a little overpriced:

I just noticed this about this watch: the hour hand is NOT aligned. Look the time is 10.10 and the hour hand is BEFORE 10. Is this a big issue?

I've seen it referred to as a "five minute track" dial.

As to the price of your watch, do you know if it has been serviced recently by a pro? If the answer is yes, I'd say it's a fair deal. If it's due for a service, might be a little high.

However, bear in mind that the WB dial and hands alone bring a premium against more common DD dials.

As others have noted, be sure you're satisfied with a leather band, as the original president bracelets are pricey. Personally, I like the look on leather.

I saw SeattleAl's watch for sale, I thought it was a real beauty and was a hell of a deal.

Probably not a big deal, most likely just needs to be reset.

The thing that stands out about an all original wide boy dial is the matching hands that mimic the indices.

Other index dials have plain gold hands...

You could be right. You know, while viewing this, the seller showed me other Day Dates, even one with diamonds and a black dial. But compared to all those, this one just stood out. Perhaps its the hands and the markers? it just looks very good in real life.

I love the Wide Boy hands and indices. There are lume and non-lume variants. Replacements are getting hard to find and pricey.

I love the silver wideboy dial variant on yellow gold, the contrast is extremely classy. I also like the style of leather band it's on, I have one of these as well and it's on a president bracelet but I plan to buy a strap similar to this.

I don't think the price is not out of line on this piece.

Good luck!
