Call to all members: has ANYONE seen the new Rolex Prince?

this model was introduced some time ago @ Basel; it has been featured on watch magazines and praised as a nice re-edition....but so far not even Rolex posts it on their website. This is (at least to me) kind of odd; why make so much noise about something and not even have it in your webpage? Does this watch exist at all? Maybe quality problems have not allowed Rolex to release it? The gold/starp datejust was presented and released much faster...or should I say, was released!

Not seen one in the flesh, but give me a S.steel prince from the 30s-40s any-day, before this new pretender.

I haven't seen one either, but I haven't looked for it so who knows... my AD may have one.

But it is in April's issue of WatchTime.

I don't want to see it. It's not a patch on the original design.

Like this one Earl very nice indeed.

Today, there are relatively few rectangular watches and even fewer rectangular shaped movements.Gruen made an extraordinarily similar watch in the late 20s-40s to the Rolex Prince, and using the same Aegler 15j to 18j movement. In the early years 1920s-40s Rolex sold most of there watches mainly to the English market (where Wilsdorf and Davis originally established their watch business).Gruen was given the rights in the United States by Aegler, but now Gruen doctor or duo dial watches sell for a lot less than Rolex.Although movement is the same and basically the only difference is having Rolex on the dial.

Ebay picture..

I actually prefer the look of the new model. But I'd never come close to remotely wanting one.

Quite understand, JJ. I DO, however, like a "tank" design and would LOVE to have the one in my avatar (padi wants it, too!). I have this "sorta-square" one now, however...

I haven't seen one, and the dealers I know don't even know when they'll see one. I'd much rather spend the money on a Calatrava or Gondolo, though.

Good call. Plus, a gondolo will get you to the top of a mountain, too. ;~)
