has anyone ever regretted not buying the date Sub? I am seriously considering a rolex now but have never had a watch without date. I absolutely love the symmetry of 114060 and do not like the cyclopes on date sub. what advice would you give me?

1) The usual, major reasons - setting convenience, more rare, symmetry, history, cyclops-dislike, subtlety etc. 2) Price - the No Date is a whopping 12%, or GBP £700, cheaper It's early days, but I think the absence of a date will bother me much less than I thought it would, and as I rotate watches (without using a winder), mean that picking it up from 'dead' and setting the time is much less hassle. I work in an office, and currently, the date is permanently displayed at all times on the bottom right of my computer screen, and on my separate phone display. Never mind on my calendar, e-mails, mobile phone etc. Plus, I'm not senile enough so that I forget the date multiple times every day. There's a lot to admire about Rolex - hence why I bought one - but even for a company which extortionately charges around GBP £50 for a single spare bracelet link, an extra GBP £700 just to add a date complication seems to me to be taking the piss more than just a little. Don't get me wrong, I'd have paid for the date version if I had really preferred the look, but I don't, and I reckon I'll be just fine without the date display! |

Forgot to add - this is a really great review, thanks.
I always find these 6-months/12-months retrospective reviews much more interesting - they look past that initial giddy 'honeymoon' period and give a rational, considered, real-world appraisal, which is particularly interesting to me as a new Sub purchaser. |

Love the personal touch on the review. I am in saving period for a submariner, and am leaning towards the 116610LN, but think about the no-date, too.

Great update - It's good to see your watch has been enjoyed. I just bought mine yesterday and am still a bit giddy.

Nice write up,thanks for all who participate in the thread. I like date window but I think non date Submariner is equally looking as good as its date variant

Thanks for the review. Was one of the ones I read before pulling the trigger one myself. Couldn't be happier

Rolex 114060
THe Rolex Sub No date has historical pedigree . The Original 007 James Bond Watch Worn while sipping a vodka Martini on rocks, stirred but not shaken . Awesome watch, clean face and timeless design . Cheers.

Nice review. The wide lugs render the no-date a bit off to me. Needs the date to tie it together. Would say the opposite about all previous references..... Still a sweet watch though.

I love this watch, and love that Rolex has stuck with some smaller sized cases.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone.
Its coming on 3 years now and I still love the watch. I just ordered a Rubber B that will work with the glidelock and will post once I have worn it with the Rubber B strap for a few weeks. |

4 liner
A compliment on your watch. I know there are differences with taste between the 2 liner (which I think is a cleaner face and of which I think may still be COSC even tho its not stated on the dial. I wouldn't accept for a minute it is any less engineered) and the 4 liner which has a greater value (because of COSC) - the values are relative to the beholder. Back to your watch, who tires Rolex sports watches ? Errrm....no one. The thing is, theres the subs date and no date black dial (with obvious classic black bezel), theres the Explorer and Explorer 2s black dials, GMTs black dial and Daytonas 165s or 116s black dial - something very special about the stainless steel and black look and you can't go wrong with that piece.
I have the Exp I 214270 unworn, a 2010 Exp 2 black dial and I very much appreciate your watch. Ive had the GMTc all black and the batman and each have their place without too much invasion into their brothers or sisters territory. Nice watch and thanks for the post. |

Thanks for the post-it's a good read.
I have had my SubC (although with the date) for a year now and still love it. I was going to get a Date Just but when I went to my (not so) local AD I saw the Sub and tried it on. I bought it within the next few days. As you mine has several swirls on the case and on the bracelet but one has to look hard to see them. At first they bothered me but I hardly even notice them now. Anyway, I wish you many years of use. |
