No, it’s the reason I would never buy a Daytona. I love the aesthetics but need a date.

I have a cheap chrono movement I bought a while back, I used it to time a pizza maybe twice LOL

Do you have friends or family in another time zone? My family is all on the east coast so I'd probably set it to 3 hours earlier or use it to know what time it is in Zurich as we have friends there and my wife asks me from time to time if it is too late to call them.

I like the moon phase complication, but I will never get one. So no, I only buy those watches which I can use daily. After all, they are just tools...

Its both for me really.

I mainly buy for aesthetic reasons, (if the watch isn't a looker I won't buy it) so it starts and ends there.

Now if it also has a useful complication, that usually breaks the tie.

Buy what you like, forget about the complication. Bet you the majority of the GMT owners prefer to wait until their iPhone updates the local time than to learn to use the GMT function on their watch, and rightfully so.

Beyond the date function, I don't think it can be reasonably argued that any watch complication is "needed".

Well for that matter we could say the same for the date and the seconds hand.
Hour and minute only should be time enough.

I think the OP's intent was not literally "needed", but rather "utilized".

I’d be lost without watch complications.

I don’t need the Chrono function but do enjoy timing things like grilling food on the BGE, my dogs fetch workouts, Sunday naps....it’s just fun! In addition to diving, I also use my SD and sub bezel to do the same thing...

I like the GMT complication and use it when i travel. It's not a prerequisite for ownership, though

I tend to think of complications now as a back up as I don't use them primarily. I run and cook and sometimes use a chrono but I don't really need to, I used a GMT for different time zones but again could work them out easily on my own. I think with the indomitable rise of the iphone, a watch itself is now a major and increasingly unique complication in telling the time. Extra comps are now icing.

Yes of course. Appearance on the wrist, to my eye, is the most important factor when I'm buying a watch.

As Tony64 suggests, for a lot of consumer goods it's not about function but about how they look and how they make you feel.
I find myself assessing things like Microwave ovens, fridges and Espresso machines on how they look - let's not even mention motor vehicles.

I don't have any use for a GMT function but I'd still consider a ceramic SS Pepsi or Coke if it looks good on my wrist.

Generally speaking though, the less complications the better for me. I like simple dials and only need time, date and water resistance. A rotating bezel is also very handy but I can do without.

Yeah, I was in Nevada a few weeks ago (+3 hours) and set the watch to local time, put the GMT hand on EST, but I don't work well with 24-hour clocks, so I just added three to figure out what time it was back home. Just like I always do.

So, it's neat, but useless to me. I bought the watch because I like the way it looks.

I rarely use the complications on my watches. My platinum Daytona is worn strictly for the looks.

Nah, the complications are of secondary importance. For me, its about the aesthetics, quality and history...and also how they make me feel. I will say the power reserve is very useful.

Love the BLNR!
