Tudor Black Bay vs Omega Seamaster Diver

I can't decide which to get! For reference I am considering both brand new, Heritage BB, black bezel with bracelet, with the in house OR SMP blue. Anyone have experience with both? What's a better pick?

I like the vintage diver look of the BB but damn the SMP and the history with Bond makes it a classy.

Can't decide! Need a 2nd opinion. If there is a consensus that one is better then the other I will go with it.

The Bond history is pretty much paid for by Omega and totally hype, imho. Omega changes their style faster than a hooker in Nevada changes dates. The traditional Bond watch was Rolex from the books. Rolex wouldn't pay for the product placement. Frankly I'd get the BB unless you have a specific Omega you like and if there is one pulling you get the watch that calls you the most. For what it's worth I've got both an SMP Bond and a Planet Ocean with orange bezel insert. Also have two BBs. The other thing to consider is whether or not you want a date complication.

I have no experience with the Tudor, but I have the Seamaster and have been very happy with it. I wear it probably 75% of the time.

I also was debating between the two and choose the SMPc Blue. I do not regret it although my BLNR probably takes up 75% of my wrist time.

One is not better than the other. They are both great. Whichever one you like best is the one. For me, I prefer the omega proportions but have had the black bay and enjoyed it. It wears bigger than the omega though.

I was wondering which "wore" bigger, considering they have the same dimensions. I wanted the one that felt bigger....I am going with the Black Bay!

I may be wrong, but the black bay wears thicker. Seems a more substantial watch to me.

Pics when you get it please!

Both great watches with rock solid movements incorporated on both sides. Definitely the Tudor wears larger IMO, the SMP is a more sleek with the way the lugs curve. If you like the SMP, I'd ask you consider my favorite varieties with the wave dials, that's where it's @ IMO. But the modern ones are very sleek with the gloss dial....definitely a "modern" look.

Smp

I have the original bond 2531 Smp. I think the BB is an incredible watch but I just cant seem to bring myself to pull the trigger. Something seems more organic to Smp’s bond history than Tudor just “producing” a vintage watch, almost too perfect, you know? Also the smp wears nicely at 41mm, the BB (ive tried on) wears a bit larger. I know larger feels fun but the trend of 39mm+ watches is on its way out. I think about this when I buy a watch I want to keep, and not get tired of in a few years.

Also Smp is very versital and the date makes it even more daily wearable.

Between those two, the Omega.

Now if the Pelagos was in the equation...different story.

Flip a coin, but before you see the results pay attention to that momentary flash when you wish it were one or the other. Then go with that one.

Good analysis of the two. Both are nice pieces, modern v retro is a good way to decide.

I love the look of the Pelagos but I'm not a fan of titanium.

I chose the 300 Diver in black, it wears very nicely. My "honeymoon" lasted 8 months of daily wear before it went into rotation.

Had both, Omega SMPc black dial and Tudor BB ETA black dial. IMO the BB has more appeal, a better bezel action, nicer bracelet and an oversll better design. The SMPc is great too, but if I have to pick only one, would choose the BB. Just my 2 cents.

Both great, tough choice. Do you need a date?
BB does not have date SMP does, I have both and like them both.

I have yet to step into the Omega realm, but I do have a BBN (ETA). I do wear it on a NATO and only had the bracelet on for a very short while. Comfortable to me, like the size, styling, and color. Easy to service when the time eventually comes. I think it's a great pick at the price point and even price points above it.

Isn’t buying a watch a “personal choice”? I never get someone buying what everyone else likes

The B.B. case is to high to my eyes and I still can’t get myself to like the snowflake, especially since they seem to be exploiting that way too much recently. Find the Omega in blue to have more character, especially with a wave dial. Overall more elegant too. It’s also not a hype watch like the B.B., so seems like the more restrained, classier choice. A future classic rather than an object of - admittedly good - marketing.

Good arguments have been expressed in favour of one or the other.

I would like to drop one that I have not seen mentioned.

I have fallen out of love for Omega for the single reason that their technical service/support is (at least in Benelux) pretty bad.

I still own several Omegas, Speedy's and Seamasters (I'm more a hoarder than a flipper), and every time I had an issue and sent the watch in for service it either came back with the issue unresolved or with some new one.

I have had to send them back at least twice for almost every time I needed service. Several weeks of wait, and it is not cheap either, to add insult to injury.

On the other hand, Tudor relies on the Rolex technical support which is very, very good. And prices are more reasonable than for Rolexes.

That is why, in this case, I would go for the Tudor BB. Just my 2c.
