5167a is a beautiful piece; light, compact, versatile. However, I would go for Sky-D.

As for the rest of your description, not in a million years.

I just don't see anything pretentious about the Aquanaut and since it's not likely to be recognized by anyone outside the WIS community, I don't know why a retiree seeking the glory of his youth would choose such a watch.

It would seem to me that a Sky Dweller would be a more likely choice than an Aquanaut.

A BNIB skydweller SS for a used 5711 would never happen in today's market. Used 5711 is worth nearly twice as much.

i said plus cash. maybe i was off a few grand. skydwellers are selling for 18-20k bnib. even davidsw had a bnib 5711 in white for 28k. its not double especially when i said used 5711.

Aquanaut

I’ve owned mine for 7 years and other than one hiccup (my fault) the thing has run like a train. It gets worn in exactly the same conditions as my Rolexes and has not suffered from any mechanical issues. It’s a lot more robust than the naysayers give it credit for. It’s got a few scratches, but have you see a Rolex with pcls for scratches? I’ve been offered more money for it by the same AD that sold it to me 7 years on, so value retention doesn’t appear to be an issue.

If there’s an issue it’s servicing: cost is reasonable at about $1200, but turn around time is between 6 and 9 months which in my book is unacceptable.

When you put Patek to service, by the time you get it back, you will have forgotten that you had one. Brace for 12 months + return from routine service.

Typically 6 to 9 months for a simple watch like the Aquanaut.

Lucky you, i had the lume on the '1' of the '10' raised number fall out. Yes, the lume part just fell out of the metal 1. As for the bezel, it scratches like a %^%$#@. And like you said, getting it serviced could take what seems like forever as compared to Rolex efficiency.

WARNING: If you have Patek Philippe polish the case BE VERY CAREFUL as there have been documented problems from Patek Service. So take a close look after service to be sure they didn't ruin your timepiece's case. Just an FYI heads up.
