Want to buy this, any input?

Hi,

I found the forum after searching for information about a 1987/88 Rolex Datejust 16233 I want to buy. There are really a lot of great information here!

I am asking of you opinion on this watch:

Reference 16233, serial number R87665X
Bracelet: ref 62523 H18
Age code: M10 (oktober 1988)
End link: ref 455B

It is sold for about 3600 USD, without papers or box. Is has a bump on the saphire, but I'm taking it to service if I'm buying it.

I hope you guys have any opinion on the originality and matching of the bracelet and the head. My current research shows that they match. Do you think it is a good buy?

I’m not too sure if it’s a good buy. Historically Rolex non-sport watches lose their value pretty quickly which will hurt you if resell

Not for that model, and especially not in that condition; I would not buy.

This may be true for new watches, but the depreciation is not so severe for used watches.

Besides, this depends on whether the buyer is interested in selling.

I suggest that the OP post to the vintage forum for more expert advice.

Looking at ebay, the price seems fair, if the watch is otherwise up to snuff.

its a bit rich for that condition and no boxes etc... unless northern europe is a drought right now for rolexeses, you can do MUCH better, even on (cough) eBay.

I would say the price is about average. If you like it get it! I think most of the depreciation has already occurred on this watch

Thanks for the reply guys.

I actually bought it, and looks better IRL than on the pics. The damage is of course highlighted in good pictures, but I am satisfied.

The price is fair in northern Europe as the currency (NOK) against Euro and USD is pretty weak now.

I moved the post to this forum as the vintage guys seemed busy with other threads ;)
