Rolex Sub 1958 Restoration, patina removal!
Hello all,
I recently saw a post on FB from a local watchmaker, he is top notch with Rolex parts account, etc. However, it shocked me what he did on a Sub from the early 60's with gorgeous patina. Essentially the watch was fully restored they replaced the dial, hands, bezel, and bracelet... I understand the potential risks of tritum dust or flakes finding its way into the movement, but imho that patina gave the watch much character... he mentions that the customer was very happy... What do you guys think? |

I really hope the owner was informed about cons and pros and the true value of the original parts.

What happeneds when two people who don’t appreciate history? They destroy it.....
Both the owner and watch maker had to be on the same page to do this |

We do what customers ask us to do. You can't force your values onto someone else.

Rolex Sub 1958 Restoration, patina removal!
I hope the customer at least got his original parts back. also I hope that it was explained to the customer that what was being done is sacrilege, and he and the watch smith May spend time in Watch Hell for the atrocity that had been committed

Oh - the watchmaker upgraded the submariner to a very late / nice 5513 L-Series I hope he also removes the old tube and crown, so the RSC couldn´t do a better job
