Few hours to decide..... 5980/1AR

Had tentatively asked my AD to look out for a Nautilus for me, to complete my trio with my 5167A and Calatrava.

I was hoping they wouldn’t call too since (only six weeks or so since I picked up the 5167A) and, when they did, my preferred model would have been a 5711/1A. The blue dial, the SS, and the price (22k GBP) all feel right.

So.... they have a 5980/1AR coming in, as a customer who had ordered that some while ago can’t complete for some reason. Suspect a few people have been called so would need to go in today. I’ve never seen a Nautilus in the two-tone look, and is it a model that justifies the considerable extra price compared to the 5711?

cant speak to personal preference but as far as worth the extra money vs the 5711 then the answer is yes. TT, chronograph vs a steel three hand watch.

Its all relative, but i think its priced where it should be compared to the rest of the line up.

I personally would avoid the TT chrono - wait for the 5711 in steel if that is the one you want.

I am not a fan of TT watches and would rather get steel or a fully previous metal model

Not a fan of two tone watches but this is amazing. Just out of my price range at the moment!

I actually prefer the TT......over the 5711. I think it has the best qualities of the Nautilius, and is unique enough.

I love it. I’d take it over any nautilus but the 5711r.

5980/1AR and the 5711R are the two Nautilus models I have seen at AD windows recently. Even if you decided not to get it you can easily get one few months down the line. The dial of the 5980/1AR is amazing.

Wait and get your preferred piece.

It’s actually really nice and cool blue dial, but two tone will always be two tone.... not for me

What a world! Considering a $60k watch, which isn't even the one you really want, because you can actually get it.

I'd get it if you wouldn't be disappointed passing up a 5711 if one came around after. If not, I'd wait for what I really want.

At this price point, you should love the watch you’re buying.

A beautiful piece and one of the few cool two tone watches out there IMO but I would still pass and wait for SS or PM

I owned one and traded it for my 5270. The blue dial is quite stunning. My advise is to not buy your second choice.

Dial and bezel combo is amazing, but bracelet not so much. I take it no discount so resale will be a bugger so I'd only buy to really keep.

The blue dial on the 5980/1AR is like no other - no match even for the 5711/1A which has a darker blue-black dial.

However if you ever get tired of the 5980/1AR, good luck trying to sell a TT Patek.

At those prices you shouldn't get something because you can get it, you should get it because you want it, get your first choice, not second, not at 60k

I’m not a fan of two tone, but if that’s your thing it’s a beautiful dial and nice complication

i am getting second thoughts about the 5980AR as well....might be really hard to sell down the line. what do you guys think about the 5980R-001 (nautilus rose gold chrono on croc strap)? there were rumors that the watch is discontinued but it is actually still available. thoughts?

They officially discontinued a number of watches a couple months ago; why would they stealth discontinue others?

Regardless, most people seem to think a nautilus should be on a bracelet, but I like that one. Not sure if the rising tide will lift that boat as well, but I think it’s holding value pretty well.

yes, actually not discontinued but even my AD thought so before they double-checked with PP.
i like it too although the deployment is not very comfy. i shall decide between the 5980R-001 and the 5980/1R. probably better value for money than the AR model.

I have the 5980/1r and don’t have any issues with the deployment not being comfy. Initially I found the watch very heavy but you get used to it quickly. You need the strap to be just right though as due to the weight if it is too loose it will swing around a bit. I wear mine most days and absolutely love it. You can change the strap and give it a totally different look, I’m tempted to give green or blue a go next.

The blue dial is very nice but the two tone looks odd on this Nautilus.

I'm a huge fan of the look. I've never tried it on though. It would compliment your collection very nicely.
