Thoughts on Speedy FOIS?

I've been considering purchasing a Speedmaster FOIS to pair with my Explorer. I had been considering a second SS Rolex, but between the upcoming redesigns with newer movements and the skyrocketing prices, it just doesn't make sense for me.

Those of you who own one, how do you like this particular Speedy?

I came so close to buying one but went for the standard moonwatch instead.

it was not an easy decision and I ended up buying a deployant clasp and brown leather strap for my watch so I could get the FOIS look.

What made you go for the standard moonwatch?

FOIS is great but I also went with the moonwatch. I really like the look of hesalite and I think the hands are a little more legible. Also, it takes 20mm straps so mixing and matching is easy (I think the FOIS is 19mm - harder to find those).

It's an amazing watch...one that could be easily perfected had they went hesalite on it.....I know they're saving that card down the line someday for some kind of LE true ck2998 lol.

Funny thing about most Speedmaster fans I talk to.....ones that buy the pro longingly looks for the FOIS afterwards....and vice versa the other way.....Being a Speedmaster fan truly makes you do nutty things (buying so many variants of the same watch).

Total junker. Ugly too. Donít do it.

Obviously kidding. Wish it was hesalite but I had to have it when I saw the retro style and thin case.

Im a fan of both but prefer the FOIS. The straight lugs, alpha hands, deeper black dial (has a slight sheen to it) and applied Omega logo at 12 all make it "pop" a bit more for me.

The Pro Hesalite is a classic though and a bit more "tool" like IMO.

The little details on the FOIS are definitely what gets me going vs the normal Pro. The 19mm lug width is a bit of a pain, even if it's true to the original.

My main issue is that in my watch ownership so far, I have a tendency to get tired of a watch and then have to sell it. I'm trying to avoid that from now on and only buy pieces I really want and ideally will keep.

Other than the hesalite crystal, any other quibbles with the design?

It's a beautiful watch with nice vintage feel and history to back it up. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

fOIS is a great watch. I had one for a while and bought a speedy racing bracelet. Really worked well. If you like the size and style, look at the ck2998 also. Another tremendous watch.

For me the alpha hands on the smaller speedy variants work really well. I now have the 60th LE, and they are well worth a look too.

I vote yes on the FOIS. I love the dial, with less verbiage, and with the classic, longer indices for the hour markers.

I also encourage you to lay the Speedmaster Professional on your wrist, just to be sure before you decide. Try it on a strap, if you think that's how you would normally wear yours, because it fits differently that way than it does on its bracelet.

Like others here have mentioned, the Speedmaster Professional appeals strongly for a few reasons. It's my preferred Speedmaster because the plastic crystal makes for a classic, warm look, and the case features a blend of shapes and finishes that I prefer to the FOIS.

A Speedmaster pairs with an Explorer perfectly :-)

I love a lot of things about the FOIS and think it’s a great watch. However, I chose the standard Professional because of the Hesalite crystal and 20mm lug width.

Tried it on again yesterday and I'm still really liking it. Side note, Tourneau was inept as usual. Brought someone by to check it out and get their opinion and the staff had no clue what they were talking about. They tried to convince me that the FOIS was just a Speedy Pro on brown leather (because they couldn't find it in the case initially), but totally changed their tune once I showed them the differences.

Good news is I think I'm going to end up buying one and then start saving towards my next watch (either an SS Daytona C or the new TT RG GMT).

Is this one at Turdneau new or used? Make sure that deal is right. I bought mine brand new from my Omega AD (non boutique) for $3700. There is (was?) a like new one for sale in the classifieds for about that. There are deals to be had on this watch out there.

I really liked mine when I had it. Terrific watch and winding it was wonderful without the crown guards.

Agreed. I bought mine from a TS here for $3500 back in Oct/Nov BNIB. Most TS are selling for about $3800+ right now.

I bought the Moonwatch Pro Hesalite from the boutique, and six months later, I was offered a FOIS. I didnít go for it as it looks almost similar with the moonwatch except for the straight lug, alpha hand, and slimmer case.

I think those aspiring to have a Speedy should get the moonwatch first IMO. After which, to try out other speedies such as the 60th anniversary and the Snoopy, something that is not too similar to the moonwatch.

Interesting. I was about to make a TS an offer, but now I'm wondering if I should try an Omega AD first. I would never buy from Tourneau under any circumstances, though in this case it was a brand new one.

I wish I had known. I feel like at $3800 I'll take too large of a hit selling if I end up not keeping it for awhile. $3500 would've been easier to stomach.
