1st TRF meeting.....London 10 Aug 2005

Shane (Southern Jessie) and myself met up in London yesterday. I got down from Bolton about 12 noon and took a quick underground trip to Green Park where Shane was waiting. Shane then took me to just about every watch shop there was, by the end of the day I was completely knackered. I said I'd wear a suit as Shane was coming from work and he usually wears one. What a mistake that was as it was swelteringly hot. I think I was one of the only person with a suit on in London. We had hoped Leigh (Andyh) could join us but he had been working nights and had not been getting home till late, which had completely tired him out.

I took my camera and got a few shots, Unfortunately I can't get my card reader to work and I'm not able to upload the pictures from the camera to my computer. As soon as I sort out the problem I'll post them.

Many thanks to Shane for his company.

PS He still can't tie a tie.

Managed to get the pictures on the computer.

Me outside the forbidden sanctuary of Rolex HQ

Who is that wally in a suit?

I told ya.

Now... how "sweltering" is the heat in England? Like 25C?

We finally get a break today from the heat. So far this summer more than 40 days of +30C heat and humidity. Today a balmy 25C... I wore a sweater. LOLOL

I buy all my watches from a guy who displays them on a blanket on the sidewalk, so I'm up for whatever he wants to show me.

That's when I was younger.

I did have to don my sunglasses on Bond Street as I did not want to get mobbed by autograph hunters.

I had a great time with GWB!!

Actually, I was knackered as well! I think we walked for hundreds of miles....that's what it felt like!

Peter, if you really want to see all the major watch shops (AD and grey market) I will show you, but make sure you wear some comfortable shoes!

Thanks to Adrian for a really nice day - I had a great time! :)

It was actually thousands of miles and I was not wearing walking shoes.

Funny thing is I went to London and ended up in a Canadian pub for a drink and a Turkish restaurant for a meal.

This was on the pub wall....................just for Johnny Atomic.

Well, if it was a real Canadian pub it would have a Canadiens or Leaf's poster, not a Canucks poster! Mind you, "JohnnyLeaf" or "JohnnyHab" just don't sound the same........maybe JohnnyBud for the Leaf's???

Lose sleep, hell those pics were worth the wait. You look super sharp in that suit mate!! Bad enough you had to be the smart one at the lunch table, but the handsome one too? That is just plain selfish.

Just kidding Shane buddy.

That's Shane's warped sense of humor. When we met up with him last February (that was in another life), he took us to an American restaurant in Covent Garden.

Shane, why the hell would two Americans who had just arrived from the States want to be in London and go to an American restaurant? I mean, with all the great Indian, Chinese, Italian, French, Turkish, Spanish, etc. restuarants in London, why would we want to go to a hamburger joint.

Peter, don't let him do that to you when you get there. Put your foot down and get something authentic. I'm sure there's a local Shane knows of where you can get real steak and kidney pies.

Good idea! However, I think we will be hard pressed to repeat in Turin. I have a feeling that the NHL will not release the players due to the strike/lockout.

Yeah Shane, take Peter to a restaurant that serves undercooked mad-cow beef, mushy peas and runny Yorkshire pudding. That's about as authentic UK dining as you can get (says the man from a country with culinary delights like banak and beaver balls).

Shane would not know a mushy pea if one popped up and bit him. I've been trying to get him to take me to a place that serves them to no avail.

No worries Adrian. If you ever come over this way, I know a few British pubs that have them actually listed on the menu as "mushy peas".

Hehehe

I'm not going to organise either of the get togethers - will leave that to one of the other guys.

Peter - I'm not sure I can make both but I shall definitely attend one and see you and Maureen.

As for venue - it depends what type of cuisine you really want to try.....I guess you've tried most in the States already?

Ed - sorry.....maybe I should have chosen a different restaurant....I wish I had more time to stay but I had to get back to work. Next time you and Arleen are down in London we can go somewhere more exciting!
