I paid over sticker for my 116500LN and I'd do it again. In fact, I liked the watch so much I also bought the 116506, although that was for considerably under sticker, so maybe it all washes out.
On the other hand, the 5164 is my first Patek and I thought a special occasion like that deserved to have my name on the paper. Having said all of that, if the same AD says it'll take two years to get a 5712 next, life's too short, and I'll sleep fine paying too much when it shows up at my door the following day. |

I think the 5164 just sings to me a bit more to be honest. But I am not 100% convinced. I'd also be trading in my JLC Reverso, as it gets zero wrist time, sadly it does not fit my lifestyle.

Fortunately, I have neither been in the position of having to wait for a watch, nor having to decide whether to buy from a grey dealer.
I have never bought a watch from other than an authorized dealer. If I cannot afford to buy from an AD or Boutique, then I will not buy the watch. Simple as that. Purchase of such a luxury item should be total pleasure, and the personal relationship I have built with local ADs and Boutiques is incomparable and indescribably wonderful. I would not have it any other way. Nor do I feel sorry for those who miss out on having that relationship. If it is not part of your experience in buying a watch, and you don't care whether it is or not, then bully for you. I sincerely hope you enjoy your watch, whichever way you go about purchasing it. And if something goes wrong with it, I hope you don't have a hassle trying to rectify the issue. Personally, I have a lot of respect for Fedex as well. But waiting for a Fedex van to show up, delivering a watch I have bought from a grey dealer, is never going to be a part of my experience. Cheers, Carl

I agree. I also like my name on the warranty card. I don’t know why... but I do. Especially for a Patek. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Establishing a solid relationship with an AD, and preferably the owner, is crucial for now and certainly the future. If you bought a few pieces they will gladly grant you priority when it comes to HOT pieces. Walkin unknown customers asking for a 5711/5712/5167 etc rarely stand a chance.
