RE: Warranty Cards

So I contacted the Beverly Hills RSC regarding something under the crystal of my GMT II (pics in another thread). The woman told me told drive it down and they could probably remedy it same day, unless the technician wants to hold it for regulation. She emphasized, "Make sure you bring your warranty card." For me, it's no problem at all because my AD gave it to me on the spot back in January. What happens if you were one of those whose card was "held" by the AD? I'm sure they can look it up, but if so, why the emphasis to bring mine with me?

I’d imagine you would go through the AD for any warranty work the 1st year.

You get a photocopy from the A.D. if they hold onto the card I believe.

Yeah and I'm fairly certain this will suffice. Unless you know, Rolex is going to become more stringent than a national Embassy, where a photocopy of your passport works

Ask her when you go and report back here!

Isn't holding warranty cards a UK issue? Is it now happening in the USA?

it's not happening in the USA as far as I know. Some major chains who have a 30 day return policy will keep it for the 30 day period and then you can pick it up.

Thank you!

It would be nice to have some factual info on this forum for a change

I purchased a Yacht Master at my AD last week. I was told the warranty card and appraisal would be mailed from corporate. I know the aaD would cover any needed work without the warranty card. Buying from an AD equals no worries for me.

This practice will definitely make its way to the USA. It’s inevitable, this stuff always starts in the UK first

I will never buy a watch from a brand that does not give me the warranty card.

Mayors has been doing this for at least a few years. They will mail you the warranty card after 30 days.

This happened to me only yesterday. I was not given a copy of the card tho. I phoned the head office of the store I got it from and they said they will check it out. 10 minuets later I got a call back and was told they had called a few different stores and this was now normal procedure. All just happened to be in the Aurum group. The lady said she would do some more checks and call me Monday, but I know what the answer will be.
In the meantime I have phoned Rolex UK and they told me that although they have heard of this it is not one of there directives.
Looking forward to my return call on Monday and how they are going to talk there way out of this!

It's not coming from Rolex. This practice is being implemented by the AD. This is why it will never fly in the US. We have 4 or 5 hundred AD's, most of which are independently owned stores.

Debates aside, if you are standing in your AD and they say they’re holding it - then have them fill it out in front of you. Have them make a copy of both the card and the sales receipt on same page.

You would have no problem at an RSC with those items and your government issued ID.

Agreed.
Simple

One probably needs a photocopy of the sales recipt anyway as the ones that are printed out may fade in a relatively short period of time depending on storage conditions.
Even more important now with the 5 year warranty.

You never know.

Answers to this.....and more.

Dropped my GMT off at the Beverly Hills RSC to have warranty work done today. Although I had mine with me, I asked about ADs holding warranty cards. The representative told me that she knew nothing about dealers retaining the warranty cards. She mentioned it to a technician, and he claimed not to know it was happening either. IF they were being truthful, it would appear that this is something the ADs have come up with on their own.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

I asked about the reduced production output and I'm told, "From the sales director of California," that they are producing no fewer units than the ever have. What they claim is happening is that the demand has just skyrocketed. So, what they are saying is that they're making them, people are just buying them up at an unprecedented rate. Sounds fishy, but I guess it's possible.

I'm not endorsing any of this information, just repeating what I was told by representatives of the RSC today.

The last Rolex watch I purchased new was in October 2016, so I obviously have my card. Why are AD's holding the cards, and is this something Rolex requires now?

If I bought an item at retail and didn't get all relevant accompaniments I would immediately, in the store, return it for a full refund. If they refused to refund, i would then call my credit card company and get the charges reversed.
