Dear All,
As captioned, is the 1861 a full in-house movement by Omega? Thanks Anthony

Its not an in house, but then neither is the Patek 5070 (also a Lemania base shared with the Speedmaster Pro).

Either that, or the Patek has a very bad movement, you could look at it either way lol
But yea, the Speedmaster movements, Cal 321 861 and 1861 have held a reverence in the watch world for over 50 years. The Speedmaster is just special, even people that don't like Omega like them, and half the serious Rolex collectors count them as their only Omega.

Its almost the same spring in 321 and 861/1861. 321 is 18.000 bph and 861/1861 is 21.600bph, but winding is the same. The only difference between 861 and 1861 is the rhodium plating. When Omega started the rhodium finish they added the "1", because of the sparepart system. 861 is build upon the 321, you can roughly say that the 861 is a simplified 321. They are very similar, some parts are the same. Omega wanted to make the movement more reliable and cheaper to make, without lowering the quality. Therefor they redesigned the 321 so it had fewer parts: Less to brake and fewer parts to make. They increased the beat to 21.600 bph to get more accuracy. |

Others would say that because the 1861 is not made in a factory that says "Omega" on the outside of the building, it is not an "in-house" movement. Is the 1861 a presigious caliber? Yes. Its history with Lemania, the moon, and Patek has ensured its place in horological history. Watered down over the years? Yes, in my opinion. The 321 had a column wheel and adjustable balance screws on the balance wheel. Premium upgrades for a chronograph. Over the years Omega did away with these features in favor of more economical options. The 1861 comes with a standard balance wheel and the common cam system for the chronograph (standard fare for basic mechanical chronographs). If your looking for the best, look into the new Speedmaster Professional featuring the 9300 caliber. omegawatches.com omegawaches.com2 The Omega below competes very well against the 4130 in-house caliber from Rolex (Daytona) and the 01 in-house caliber from Breitling.

Wow that speedmaster looks great but many people (myself included) are more drawn to the historical aspect of the speedmaster. Hence I bought the hesalite moonwatch. It feels inferior in just about every regard to my 114060 but its just not about that. All about the history

Lamania may be part of Breguet. However, at the pricepoint i doubt Breguet make the movement. It is possibly made by ETA and some omponents made in China under license for Omega.
