Fakes and FrankenWatches on Ebay

Thank God For Paypal protection. I recently bought a rolex Sub no date with papers on Ebay. wore it for a week and then gave to a watchmaker to check. He says its a good fake! Buyer beware! From now on i will probably only start buy from ADs or really known Grey market sellers like Jomashop. Anybody have a similar experience?

eBay's nowhere to play unless you know what you're doing!!!

i would never bother buying a rolex from ebay when there are so many good options available if going the non-ad route

Great deals can be had on ebay, but it's a minefield and you have to know what you're looking at/for.

Paypal protection is great for buyers - not so good for sellers. I had sold a camera on eBay a few years ago that turned out to be purchased with a stolen credit card. Unfortunately, this was discovered a few weeks later after Paypal had paid me and without notification. Once day I just happen to check my Paypal account and it was negative over $600. I contacted them and they told me about the fraudulent purchase. I told them I already shipped the camera and asked where's my sellers protection? Essentially they told me "too bad for you". I told them I'm not paying the deficit in my account as I'm out the camera. We went back and forth over this for a couple of weeks until I threatened legal action - they finally said I didn't have to pay the deficit but were closing my eBay account. Perfect as I told them I would never use their service again anyways.

As a relative novice here, I have a related question. I read here from time to time about "trusted sellers." Is this anyone who posts an ad on this forum or some privileged subset of individuals who have successfully sold a certain number of pieces?

Even Joma shop is known for having issues, I’d stick with the trusted sellers here on TRF or ADs only.

If you want to buy gray go with a "Trusted Seller" on this site and you won't have these issues. It is quick and easy I have used DavidSW numerous times and always a seamless transaction, buy the seller always before you buy the timepiece IMPO.

As a novice here, who is a "trusted seller" in the For Sale section?
