Price check on a GMT...

Back again!

After the Sub date and a Few PAMS, I just can't stay out of our local AD! I have purchased the Sub and a few TAG's and Omega's from this one dealer and I am in the hunt for a GMT. I was wondering if anyone in the know could tell me what a reasonable price to ask for on it would be. When I purchased the Sub date I didn't dicker with them one bit and paid the full retail with no questions asked. That was my first watch from that AD and have since then purchased the TAG and Omega for my wife. I feel like this time around I am at least entitled to inquire about a discount, but I do not want to come in WAY low and tick them off as it is a LONG way to the next nearest AD (read-another state ) They currently have two and have been sitting on them for about a month...

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!!

Start at 20% and work down if you have to. You never know, you might catch them in a good mood and they might bite. Especially if they've been sitting on them. Personally I wouldn't accept anything less than 10%.

On the other hand, they might not discount at all. You won't know if you don't ask. Good luck and let us know how you do.

You should be able to get at least 10%, Dave. Maybe even 15%, but not likely they'll go to 20%.

Thanks guys!

Just for the record, what is the current "list" price? Has there been any or are there any impending price hikes? Just want to have all of my ducks in a row when I march through the front door...

I believe it's $4525 There has been some talk of a price talk in Sept, but no one knows for sure.

Do you expect prices to go up or down?

I did not feel like haggling with the AD when I bought my GMT-II two years ago, so I bought a one year old Pepsi GMT-II from Cayce at The Time Keeper (http://www.preownedrolex.com/) for about $3,000. He currently has two listed on his site for $3,195, and he always has more that he doesn't list.

Brand new: Black bezel black face GMT $3600 out the door. (May 2006)

Of course that was bought from the one of two ADs in Bahrain.

Hi Dave,

You really shouldn't worry about ticking them off. You are the customer...you've bought 3 watches from them!! So what the heck....they should be rolling out the red carpet for you, my friend.

Just go in there and demand a discount on the Sub. Current price for the 16610 is US$4,525, but I'm sure you can get 10% off...easy.

Good luck and do keep us updated.

Cheers - JJ

If you pay in cash, they should at least knock off the credit card charge, which runs anywhere from 4-6%. That's a starting point for further negotiations. Then there's always the tax they can knock off, which can run 6-10%. Just keep looking for ways to save them money.

Well...

Went in to the local AD today with a fresh stack of Franklins and asked to see a GMT. My regular lady wasn't there and would be gone for a week according to the guy that was helping me. I said that I would take it for $4000.00 out the door, cash, today. He informed me, rather snootily, that "This is a Rolex, not a Timex. There is never a discount on Rolex's price, ever."

I walked.

I MAY go back there in a few weeks when the regular lady is back, or I may pick one up when I am in Chicago next week!

It's not like I was dressed like a bum or a drug dealer. And I was wearing my Sub that I purchased from them when I went in. Appearantly it wasn't my day to be a GMT owner....

He he...douchbagitis...

I had the stack of fresh green on the counter JJ-that was kind of how I made the offer. I set it on the counter and said here is $4000.00 cash for it today, out the door. I agree this usually works, but this guy wasn't having any of it.
I feel a little better today, and will go back when my normal salesperson is back. This guy, however, will NEVER see any of my money...

I hope they work on a comission, because I am sure the GMT won't be the last...

Hopefully his mistake will hurt his pocket when your regular returns.
