No, but I might pay extra for the caseback aligned to 12 o'clock...

I had a Bluesy for 18 years and the crown position never changed in 15 years from finger tight. Then some idiot working at a AD offered to clean my watch and after he did, I watched him reap down on my crown as tight as he could turn it. He said the crown must be very tight to maintain WR. I was shocked and later that night I noticed the crown position was changed from that point on from this idiot stretching the threads on the tube. Rikki eventually services the watch and there wasn’t any damage but after that, no one at a AD touches my watch again.

The crown was oriented perfectly for 15 years and in one extreme over tightening, it moved 180 degrees out from where it was.

I can honestly say I've never checked the alignment on any of my crowns on any brand watch I own. All that I care about is that it screws down properly.

I wouldn’t but expect Rolex to have solved this by now. And for all you aplologosts/badge of honor type guys, explain why Rolex made it so on the Skydweller and on all their adverts.

I don’t care at all. Neither for my current collection nor for any future acquisitions.

I believe it's not seen as a problem, therefore nothing to solve. I may be wrong but I believe the Skydweller is unique in that the crown works in conjunction with the bezel and may be why the crown is up on that application.

I think you can have the orientation fixed somehow by the skilled technician.

I thought only ‘skilled technicians’ worked on Rolex watches Tony?

Not an OCD person. So no. And I don’t expect the crown to be so called “correctly orientated”.

I prefer the crown to be upright, down, or dial facing, but I wouldn’t pay extra for it. Really not a big deal.

Let’s go back to a previous post in this thread.

If this really bothers you wind the crown in until it is tight and back it off to where ever you want.

It will make no difference to water resistance.

There you go....fixed for no cost.

Perhaps a passionated skilled technicians will do. This combo seem not happening on the RSC in my city.

Hi Bas,

Can you do ‘it’?

Set the crown at any position you want during a service?

Sorry Tony, I thought we were talking about new Rolex watches bought from an AD?

Of course not, some random combination of screw threads being screwed in tight by hand.

Thought as much.

Is there a thread lock/sealer on the tube where it screws into the Mid-case?

A gasket and loctite.

Good info Bas. Cheers. I always figured it couldn't be easily.

To answer the OP's question. I wouldn't pay any more for it. If it could be done then sure. I guess I'd prefer it over random but it really makes no difference to me either way.

I don't think it really matters, and certainly wouldn't pay more for it to be 'correctly oriented'... I'm sure Rolex will get round to doing it one day though.

The "mis-aligned" crown actually does not bother me really - I am too OCD about other things. It would certainly be a nice-to-have, but I definitely wouldn't pay a penny (well maybe a penny) more to ensure the watch I actually got had a crown with logo perfectly aligned upward.
