I'm happy with my "crown down" Exp1. It's actually oriented perfectly straight, upside down.

The tube has the be screwed in all the way and tight. If you don't do this you will likely have a leaky watch.

I would pay to have my crown aligned "perfectly". (in reality there is no perfect, however, I would want it per Rolex Marketing pictures)

If it had to have a mechanism like they put in the Sky-D PM models , I would happily pay a £100-200 premium.

It doesn't really matter that much, but if they offered it. I would.

I would if I could see it without a pair of reading glasses. Lol.

But seriously, no. As long as it works as intended I’m happy.

If you bought one new then the crown should have already been oriented correctly imo. You definitely paid for it.

Hell no. Besides, who decided where the crown should point in order to be "properly" oriented? It's all subjective. And ocd. . .

How long does it people take to realize and accept that you can’t align conventional screws and threads?

It can be done with varying degrees of success.
Using indexed and matched sets of components is a starting point to mitigate variables.
It's still going to be a very involved process for no value other than to cater to the whims of the visually delusional.

Variations over time in Seal/Gasket crush due to aging is a bigger issue. Especially with regard to the ones located inside the base of the cap of the Screw down crown.
And the fact that people will inevitably have a different interpretation of what is sufficiently tight.

It's simply best not to go there if Rolex is smart. Which they basically are

Ever heard of indexed Spark plugs?

but you can. The one i have crown up, stays crown up always. The others screw in at the same orientation as well. I had one that was crown up and it went for service and came back perfectly crown down. Its still like that. At least with me, im not getting a different crown position every time i screw it in.

I suspect they can do it, but just dont really care.

I wouldn’t, but if it adds a certain level of happiness to your day and you feel that you can put a dollar amount on it, then go for it. Worst things to spend spare cash on.

My first Rolex - a GMT ceramic I bought in 2007 has perfect alignment.

A few years later during a service, Bob Ridley replaced the crown and tube on a 1680 red I had recently purchased.

I asked Bob if he could align it and he educated me that this just wasn’t done, and not in his usual gentle way. If Bob Ridley says no...

APs don’t line up, and let’s be honest - those watches get a ton more TLC during assembly...

What? I haven't had the crown face upwords on any of my daydates or my gold sub.

AP lines up their screw heads on the front but not the back...can't say I've ever noticed their crowns.

Would it bother you if the screws didn't line up?

But afraid today these types of threads get all the attention gone are the days of those interested in the history of the RWC and the actual watches. Now its so called alignment points, will this go up in value if I buy this or that.Is it safe to do this or that while wearing a Rolex. My watch is running 1 second over Rolex spec should I have it serviced.

Rolex decided. In all their adverts and by doing it on the Skydweller.

So now OCD is an insult? lol at you "cool" Rolex fans. I bet if Rolex started to make all the crowns the same as the Skydweller, you "doesn't care" folk would change your tune. Like when Rolex made the cases bigger, added the ceramic bezel, changed the bracelet, went to SELs, etc.

It’s completely RNG.
It is possible and I know how to do it but it would slow down a few processes by a huge margin. And you have to to do every process in-house, no purchases.

The 'screws' in the bezel are fixed in place... You take the bezel off from inside the case. Whereas the screws in the caseback are regular screws, so they don't line up perfectly.
