Replica Submariner ???
Hey guys
Just curious as to how you would tell if this watch is a replica or not? (asides from the obvious movement) It looks like a pretty good watch to me . . . is that movement any good???? |

To me the dial looks shi**y. The hr markers and printing just don't look right.

I know you said "aside from the obvious movement", but you can't discount the movement when checking for authenticity. In this case, the movement definitely gives it away. None of the hallmark signs of an authentic Rolex movement are evident. Bigtime FAKE!
It should look like this: If the picture of the watch dial had the bezel placed in its default position, more could have been determined. And a closer inspection of the dial itself would probably reveal even more. Remember, these fakes are getting better and better at deception!

Cyclops to far to the right.
Rolex crown visable at the 6. Crown Guards oversized and sloppy. Movement. ****Many more flaws if I could hold the watch in my hands. I can spot a fake Sub in 5 seconds flat. |

At 1st glace it just looks wrong. The dial is way off with the markers and as Mike just stated the font looks bad (cheap)
Even if you don't have the opportunity to look at the movement there are a lot of give-aways.... Usually you just get a gut feeling as soon as you lay your eyes on one of these... Just MHO |

I'm no expert, the other guys here are alot better at this than I am, but the visible crown etching is a dead give away There is something about the lettering, I can't tell what exactly though

Hi 323,
If the movement is an obvious fake, rest assured the remainder of the watch is just that - FAKE!! I really wouldn't bother with that POS. Honestly, I'd rather wear a genuine Timex than any fake watch. JJ

Well there are so many things wrong with the dial and fonts. But the movement looks like a guilded ETA 2824-2.But without seeing the balance wheel cannot be certain. The Chinese now are making copies of ETA and Valjoux movements.A fake is a fake and people who buy this stuff fool nobody but themselves IMHO.

Hmmmm.... how awful! the bezel looks like cheap plastic too.
I don't know how people can buy fakes. After owning/wearing 'real' watches, I just couldn't comprehend wearing a fake. I mean, you know it's a cheap tin can, and there's no pride to be had in it. You may as well buy a 10yr old Holden Barina, put a coffee can over the exhaust, attach big offensive wheels and affix a 'bad boy' sticker. You'd be about the same in my books.... sheesh

Hey, maybe that's what I'll do with Sash's Barina! Hell, at the least it'll distract people from the smoke.

It'll go even faster if you paint a giant, red R on it! But, there's nothing wrong with small, economical hatchbacks. They kept me mobile through uni (accompanied by plenty of smoke too!), and with fuel prices as ludicrous as they are nowadays it's got to be helpful.

Never meant that it was a fake sub! It's just that in that one pic it looks like somebody took a bite out of your hour hand!
