Why is Hublot frowned upon?

So, im looking to buy a more “fun” watch (aka. a little more flashy) i know its not something i’d do. But i just feel like it would be fun owning a more contemporary watch. And i feel like Hublot is a more affordable entry level contemporary brand that kind of makes “concept” types of watches. But i notice that Hublot’s reputation is not the best; low quality, their limited edition tactic, mass production, and new brand.

Is there any recommendations or alternatives that i may get?

this is considering i dont have a good enough purchase history or relationship with my Rolex AD, to get hands on for their SS sports watches.

Hublot have the screws visible as part of the design on the very front of the face in the bezel. To me that is sacrilege. A rolex has no visible screws or fasteners anywhere.

I don’t think they’re really frowned upon, just not usually considered a WIS brand maybe.

For me I'm not familiar with them. Likely they take a big hit on resale and that's an issue.

To each his own my friend. Personally that is not for me; if I want to see the screws I'll buy a casio g-shock.

I agree. I tried a couple and they were ok. I think they are a bit too expensive for what you get however.

Yeah i understand.. but i dont understand why its not bank for the buck or equal to your money’s worth. Is it due to the material they use or the time span making these watches?

Honestly if you ask a lot of watch experts they can’t even tell a fake from a real one while even cracking the backs on most models. I think Federico talks watches has a whole video on it. It’s a good video. So I think that has a lot to do with it. A good fake is the same quality of a real hublot. That says a lot imo when a guy in the industry for his whole life and has a business selling used high end watches can’t tell the difference between a real and a fake let alone his watchmaker who even opens the case. That alone would put it off my list forever imo. If i were you and wanted something sporty and a decent price look at the chopard Millie Migla

Let's see. No history, or originality. Claim to fame was ripping off the Royal Oak and slapping Nautilus ears on it. There's Hublot. Footballers like them.

Too many LE's and the fact that a major London AD sent out an email on a Hublot sale on these LE's because they had been sitting forever is a huge turnoff.

not even getting into the nature of the brand itself which isnt attractive to a lot of people, luxury on sale is poison IMO.

Also... is it a LE if its not actually hard to get?

I like some of the Hublot designs and might consider one at extreme discount and pre-owned. Not quite a fashion watch but somewhat close for me. The ablity to sell one would be difficult and most of the Trusted Sellers will not take one on trade unless it is unique and typically bundled in with a broader trade. Look at the Tag Heuer Calibre 01. Some of the watches have the same appeal at a fraction of the cost.

It should. Jean Claude Biver started his career at AP and admitted to "drawing inspiration from the Royal Oak" when designing the Big Bang.

Hublot was built off the marketing genius of JCB. It was a very edgy sports watch that combined unique materials at the time but had ETA movement in the beginning. He marketed in places that traditional watch brands wouldn't. There was a great interview he did talking about how he went with soccer because no one else did. He could get the contract for pretty cheap and soccer was growing rapidly in terms of viewers and larger and larger contracts for the athletes. He marketed where there $ was going.

They are not a bad brand just frowned upon by many WIS because of the lack of history and the "over marketing" in with early use of ETA movements. I was very well stocked grey dealer a few weeks ago (Patek 5711 sealed, Patek 5980, Patek, 5168G AP 15202, AP 15407, all SS Rolexes and a few RMs) and and gentleman walked up and was amazed by the Hublots "now those are some real watches" and he was wearing a Rolex DSSD. Obviously their marketing is working for those that might not be as informed on Haute brands.

who needs an AP or an RM when you can save $10s-$100s of thousands and get a G-shock?

To me, some of the models and designs come off as trying too hard, although there are some pieces that I do think look decent. The edgy use of different materials is hit or miss but if i were to ever get a Hublot, I think it would be one of the Spirit ones with the tonneau case mainly because I think a tonneau sports watch would be a fun thing to wear at times...also because I dont have Richard Mille money

Horribly overpriced and most models are gaudy.

We’ve already covered this topic in a current thread – not sure there’s any point to having another one with the same old tired and lame arguments being made!

I’m pretty sure their target audience isn’t WIS, more the casual buyer who wants the same thing as their favourite footballer

Hublot isn't frowned upon.

It's a 30 or so, year old company that is relatively expensive. Not a lot of history, but if it floats your boat, go for it.

i agree a non WIS watch aimed at casual buyers, and that isnt the worst thing necessarily but we are all WIS here... the reverse is true of GS. Its kind of a WIS brand and casual buyers don't get it.
