I paid more for my Wife's Tudor 74000n than I did for my Mother's Rolex 1500...

So, in some cases, not necessarily "poor man's" Rolex.

IMO Tudor is Rolex 2nd line just like VW to Audi, Toyota to Lexus and nothing wrong with that. I wear my $300 Seiko more often than my Rolex and love Toyota Land Cruisers.

I think Tudor should have its own sub-forum since there is no similarity between modern Rolex an Tudor watches.

I have a Black Bay and a Pelagos...both awesome!
If I had to chose one of the two...Pelagos for sure! Great watch

For me, Tudor now makes the premier dive watch.

Look at your last statement: "I don't really care what other people's opinions are of my watches." If that was truly the case, then why are you ranting? Buy what you like and enjoy and forget about "other people's opinions." Just saying.

I think the Tudor BB GMT is a great watch (I have a quibble about the rivets because they are horrid).

I think the Pelagos is a great watch, too.

The thing is, Tudor is not Rolex. Tudor will never be Rolex. No matter how great Tudor watches are (again, there are some great watches), they are not Rolex and will never be Rolex.

There's nothing wrong with owning a Tudor (or three) but you know, deep in your heart, it's not a Rolex. But that's totally cool - Tudor is not trying to be Rolex (though maybe what Rolex used to be, since you used to be able to get a stainless steel Rolex without all the shit you have to go through now).

Tudor is certainly not a "poor man's Rolex". If anything, Omega is a poor man's Rolex. But they have the damn Speedmaster, a watch every watch guy should own (one I don't own but covet), and cost not that much less than Rolex.

At the end, I'd never, ever look down on a guy wearing a Tudor. Never. And I don't think most people here would, either. If anything, I'm jealous of the BB GMT.

I agree i think Tudor should get it's own sub forum, about Tudor being a poor man's Rolex i totally disagree, Tudor makes great dive watches although i prefer Rolex to Tudor but it's all down to personal preference.

I’m sorry if you have been offended by anyone on this forum. I don’t think I have ever read a thread calling Tudor a “poor mans rolex” or a “budget brand” I’m not saying that it hasn’t been written, I’m just saying I haven’t seen it. I 100% agree with you. I love the Tudor brand and think they have hit it out of the park with their new references. I owned the blue Pelagos and absolutely loved it. Sadly I had to trade it away. My brother is in the market for his first high end time piece. He had a family, thus, a limited budget. I’m steering him hard toward a Tudor watch. Enjoy your new Pelagos Sir. You’re going to love them!!

Two of my favorite watches of all time are Tudors. My blue Tudor Submariner and my now-gone Tudor Tiger with the panda dial. I regret selling it almost daily.

I don’t think a dive watch dial can be more beautiful than this.

I have to admit that I am of this opinion regarding Tudors fitted with an ETA movement. Something just doesn't ring true with Rolex's tradition of self-sufficiency.

But now that (a certain number of) Tudors feature an in-house movement, it's a whole different story. They've gained a lot of legitimacy in my view. They can be called Rolex's sister company, and deserve to be discussed in the Rolex main forum.

I can't believe we're still having this discussion. The Rolex and Tudor products are different and they both have their own charm. Enjoy them and stop spending time worrying about what another person thinks....

For me, Tudor are just too close to Rolex. Close, but no cigar. I'm happy to wear Seiko, however.

I really don't understand people who can't cope with any sort of criticism of their watch choices. Who cares what the next guy thinks? Life really is too short to get upset about nonsense like this.

Do you feel the same about vintage Rolex Daytona’s? Just curious.

If this had been the same price as a Sub C, I would still have bought it.

That's a 79160. The dial is known as the Albino. It's the rarest of the 791x0 series Big Block dials (to the very best of my knowledge and research).

Sometimes it looks all white and sometimes it doesn't.

Borrowed a photo of the Rolex Daytona Albino at the bottom.

Were they, too, powered by a non-Rolex movement ? I don't know much about the Daytonas as I'm not particularly attracted to them.

If yes, then I'd rate them to a lesser degree than a Daytona with a Rolex movement.

Don’t worry too much about those who might criticize Tudor; they’re likely in the initial stages of this hobby and are still learning, so it’s ok. I for one think that Tudor is firing on all cylinders recently. Nothing but respect for the brand.

Tudor seems to be running away with it lately , honestly the pelagos has to be the most significant dive watch since 2012 and even more with the in house movement .

I think this is correct. It takes time. At first everyone wants a Rolex. Once achieved you open yourself up to learning more and appreciating other brands.

Tudor is really a great brand.

I have owned the Tudor GMT, but sold it because the case was too thick IMO.

Cant wait for 2019! Hopefully BB 58 variants! BB 58 GMT!

Who knows!
