Well maybe the Pelagos is a candidate but most of their Jewelry dive watches don't even have a diver's extension which makes them poor dive watches, imho.

There is little to no overlap between Rolex and Tudor other than them both being watches. Quality nor design are really similar, afaik. It may have one time been that Tudor offered a watch that was the same but different. Not true any more.

Pelagos is a nice watch but for me it doesn't really get my juices flowing. Maybe it's the Titanium. Something seems off in dial design. Perhaps it's the OCD in me that wants to focus on the cut out areas and the way the lumes are placed in them.

It seems to me that Tudor needs to be evaluated on its own merits. If one wants a dive watch not made for diving but with a great vintage vibe then much of the Tudor line is great. For me, I'll stick with Rolex. Call me uncooperative.

How about this vs. the 16520. Basically same construction and neither have Rolex movements. One cost ~5k and one cost ~20k.

Tudor was originally founded as a more affordable alternative to Rolex. By that rationale, one could call it a "poor man's Rolex" however I believe that would be doing the brand a disservice. Personally, I feel that the modern Tudor line up is truer to the roots of Rolex as a tool watch that was prized by adventurers and sportsmen. The Pelagos for example is an exceptionally durable and handsome piece that feels closer in spirit to the old Submariners than the modern ones do.

16520’s had the 4030 which was 50% Zenith ebauch and 50% Rolex made - so that’s a very different movement than the Tudor. But I think the Tudor is a good option.

No I know and the Zenith movement is definitely more horologically important and prestigious than a run of the mill Valjoux. My point was people have this view of Tudor when one of the most sought after watches Rolex produced had essentially the same construction as the Tudor and neither used an in house movement.

I don't know this either, but I'd also wager Rolex/Tudor tinkered with the 7750 a decent amount before putting it in one of their watches.

Was actually a little hesitant because I did not know how I would like the matte finish but it is so much nicer than I thought it would be. I absolutely love the finish and the presence.

The Nautical tool watch...

Love my Rolex, but for those of us in the 'Marina' community, the BB Bronze is so
appropriately Nautical (Use of Bronze bits on our sailboats & motor yachts).
And those hands ! You really don't realize it until you wear one; they're so readable !

My first mechanical watch was a Tudor Black Bay, 6 years ago. Now I also own a 16610LV. I don´t see Tudor as less in quality or status or any of that b´lls´´i. I actually think it´s much more special than a lot of other Rolex watches. Tudor watches are awesome! Actually I put my name down for a GMT last Saturday.

You do not have to justify yourself. Buy what you want but be careful with the date of the new manufacturing

I migrated as well. I owned 5 Rolex and various others; Tag, Omega etc.....
I sold all but 3 Rolex and have moved into collecting Tudor. So far over the past year this is my current Tudor Lineup... just waited 3 months for the Harrod’s which is the most recent gem. For those who don’t have a pile cash, Tudor’s are much easier to acquire.

Nothing wrong with either to a certain level, however what I don’t like of Tudors are the bulky sizes of the black bay range. I find it pretty bad actually I don’t understand he love for that ugly side profile.

Thanks! Yup, the one I own has a Rolex signed crown and Rolex signed caseback along with the Oysterdate dial.

F what everyone else thinks ... too much negativity in this world ... there will always be someone to criticize any watch ("PP is too old fashioned, AP is for Russian oligarchs etc". listening to it will make u crazy.

I think those are very undervalued right now. I bought a new Tudor Chrono Heritage last week and love it. Nice substantial watch.

Exactly right.

I added the North Flag to my modest Rolex lineup (YM, GMT Batman) and absolutely love it. I’d recommend Tudor’s in house movements, their designs, and fit and finish to anyone frustrated with the Rolex decision not to keep up with demand for SS sports watches.

(And I’m not taking a swipe at Tudor eta movements. I read great things about these Tudors here on TRF. It’s only that the NF is my first Tudor and it’s got an extremely accurate and solid movement from the Rolex/Tudor factory in Geneva.)

I finally bought my 1st Tudor in December 2018, the BB58. Since then, I have tried to rotate it out by wearing my PM Daytona 116509 & my IWC Porsche Design compass watch which I just serviced in February. Somehow, the BB58 keeps coming back. I love the retro look, the accuracy & the tool watch feel of it.

I recently came across a Tudor Monarch I am considering buying. I kind of like the idea of it being a Quartz. Has anyone had any experience or opinions on this piece?
