You do realize that California has the 5th largest economy in the world. And the last governor was Newsom's mentor Jerry Brown for whom he served as lieutenant governor for 8 years.

Kentucky's is ranked 45th in the US.

Sometimes it seems like some of these comments are coming from jealousy.

Why must we tarnish the Bluegrass State? CA has 10x the population, and regardless, the size of California's economy has no bearing on whether SF is a nice place to visit. It's really crowded, dirty, and expensive -- these are quality-of-life considerations that are independent of politics.

and one could easily make the opposite argument: that California's politics are a product of its economic prosperity, not the cause of it

And California's good fortune has nothing to do with me.
