What would be your ideal 3-5 Patek collection?

it's actually pretty close, probably 60/40, 5711/5712. And that may be just because the 5711 has more wear marks so I tend to be less concerned about wearing it now matter what I'm doing.

I had posted a msg earlier regarding my 3-pc Patek collection (5980, 5726 and this just arrived 5146r) and I had mentioned that I was picking up the 5146r today.

Should I move it to another thread?

For me out of the current catalogue (if I'm dreaming and have no budget):

5712/1A
5740/1G
5370P
5078P
5131/1P

Within my budget, I would be happy with these 3:

5712/1A
5164A
5231J (assuming MSRP)

I’ll go with the 3 that I own.
All veering to the casual side as it’s very rare that I need a formal watch.

No way, Steve, you add the 5212 if you must, don't replace any of those.

Thanks. I love the white 5711.

Yup. It wasn’t easy as I love the 5170p, but the 5270p has been a grail of mine even before it was in the catalogue.

I will admit that Ben’s pics of his recent acquisition make me want the 5170p back, but I have resisted so far, barely. He is a very good enabler.

All in all, though, I do appreciate the case, lugs, and overall design more on the 5270p. It’s a watch that keeps your attention. The blackened numerals and index markers against the salmon dial are just perfect. The case is bold and curvy, and the lugs are broad and sexy. The watch is so well proportioned. Hoping to have a new strap option at some point in the future to spice it up a bit.

Thanks, Neil! What a journey it’s been. However, finally (again!), I am very content with the Pateks I have in the collection. What I have will not be going. Adding is the only option, and it must be something that will get wrist time. The 5212a fits the bill, but that’s really all that is of interest right now. Well, maybe the 5231j as well, but I need to think long and hard on that one.
