Overall, I think it's an attractive watch and probably will be sold out. Still kicking myself for not buying that 35th Apollo 11 Speedmaster with the panda dial for $2600 out-of-the door from the Omega AD, I had a few chances later and tried it out on my wrist many times but did not buy it. The reason for not buying it was I was avoiding buying 2 watches with the same movement. And it's hard to believe that this was 15 years ago.

The issue with Omega is they don't keep their value... A year later they loose 1/2 their value.

As do almost all luxury items except the elite chosen few, ie Rolex, Patek, AP...

But it’s true, there is no do over with Omega. Love it and keep it or don’t buy it.

I have a few that have risen in value almost as much as Rolex sports models, but it is very dependent on the watch, and the time you bought and the time you intend selling.

That's not strictly true though is it. Have a look at some of the LE prices and you'll see. Examples would include the LM LE Planet Ocean, Tin Tin Speedy, Silver Snoopy Speedy. And in any case, everyone knows that the ones that aren't LE can be bought grey at significant discount.

There are even non-LE models which are creeping up in value like the 2500 powered Planet Oceans.

It is difficult to say at this stage whether this one will go up or down but I'd guess that most buyers now aren't buying to flip like they would a Rolex.

Rolex make probably 2 or 3 times more stainless steel Daytona's every year.
Not once but EVERY year :-)

10K too expensive ? why ?
You thikn this co-axial is not worth it ?
Probably one of the best chronograph movements out there, including Rolex it's 4130 calibre ...which costs more than 10K

Well I think you are pretty wrong.
Even a standard speedy keeps pretty good value compared with most other watches
And the LE ... Last til I checked they did very well and a lot of them sell above list.

Besides ... who cares .. it's a nice watch and if somebody is afraid loosing some money then he or she isn't a real watch enthusiast in the first place :-)

I kinda agree. Too many people worry about value and not what they like. What’s the point in buying a watch you don’t like as much because it keeps value better? It’s no different to cars in my book. Buy what you like and enjoy.

In any case, people value their watches based on the prices they see greys putting them up for. Is likely no where near where they would get.

Possibly one of the greatest misses in the history of commemorative watchmaking.

Needed to be the exact 105-012 case, dial and bracelet design and sizes with the 321 column wheel movement. No cheesy dial medallions, just what the astronauts saw when they looked at their watches. Same case back as the 105-012 with Armstrong, Aldrins and Collins names, Apollo 11 and landing date in small engraving around around the circumference of the case back.

Max 1969 watches total:

169 Platinum
400 White Gold
400 Yellow Gold
1000 Stainless

Price them how you like, they'd all be gone in 60 seconds.

It's not like they didn't know the 50th was coming - they had plenty of time to plan and deliver a meaningful commemorative edition that would bring collectors back to Omega.

My

Cheers.

I was at my OB last night to pick up a link. The guy told me there were low twenties left in US market.

I think this fascinating.

The quote on the back is pivotal-

After doing some research Armstrong maintained he did say the 'a'...

Research identified he did- but it can't be heard...

Have Omega set the record straight?

I just confirmed that I’m good to get one at Omega in Short Hills.

The watch is not perfect but better executed than GoT season 8.

It has more bling than the SpeedyTuesday, which I decided to offload. SpeedyTuesday is a better design, but fades into the wrist.

I also think it pops more than the 45 Apollo 11.

Should I or not?

I’ve been told I’m guaranteed the watch by my local omega boutique.
Should I get it or not?
I’ve never been lucky with watch depreciation in the past.
I do love the watch but it’s a lot of money if it tanks in value.

If you are worried about the value, I’d say don’t but it. It’s a luxury good and not an investment. That said, I think it unlikely to tank, but equally won’t make you rich.

I agree with Mr Kneedeep above. Does absolutely nothing for me. 9 o’clock sub dial and caseback are frankly kitsch. Price is insane. You can buy a great example of the 105.012 - the exact same model that made it to the moon - for less.

Not much less, if at all. With no ceramic, sapphire, updated movement, gold, 5 yr warranty etc.

But if you wish to buy a vintage watch with all that entails, go ahead. I do get it, but it would be interesting on the other side of this forum whether many would prefer the vintage Rolex to the newer 6 digits.

My local OB told me I was on the list but there is no guarantee I'll get it, you must have a better relationship than I...........

I agree with Steve's comment above, I don't think with 6969 pieces it will be in short enough supply to make it the next Snoopy, but I think it will stay around RRP possibly gradually rise. Personally it's about whether I want a watch not what it may or may not be in future.

Interestingly the OB which I frequent were the same and wouldn’t guarantee. I suspect there will be plenty doing the rounds one way or another however.

My local AD is getting only one guaranteed, and they let me deposit to have first option on it (fully refundable if I don’t like). The only issue is that I suspect omega will fill the boutiques first prior to getting out to AD’s so I might be in for a wait.

Probably pretty close to if not already sold out in the US.

I am first on the list at my AD. I just spoke to them yesterday and they said they have 5 of us with deposits, but were told by Omega that they will only be receiving 4 pieces.

Nice piece but I still prefer my 20th anniversary Apollo 11 version, bet those new ones are expensive! :)
