Ideas on how to surprise wife with first Rolex?

Dear friends,

A bit of a tangential and non watch related question today. This will be our family's first Rolex. I found the exact model that I know she loves and have put a hold on it using 30% payment. We will be visiting the city where the Rolex Boutique is (Vancouver BC) next week. This will be a 10 year anniv. gift.

Any ideas from folks out there how I can best orchestrate a surprise? Should I go buy it first and then surprise. Downside is that although I know she will love the one I have picked (6mos back I casually in passing made her try the white dial variant), she won't have a choice.

Other option is to casually walk in to the store, let her pick any, including the one I have selected?

Anyone worked something out with an AD to surprise?

Open to all ideas! Please help.

I’d casually take her in. The buying experience should be part of the gift. And it would make sure you get the right one. And be able to get it sized.

Just be ready for the Un Expected to happen. Make sure that it is want she wants and not what you want for her. Good luck on the day...

Wise! Looks like best to take her in to store. The AD said the deposit I put makes sure that the particular model is held for me, but if we change minds, we can pick any.

Should be surprise enough that the watch you want is in stock!

That's an excellent point. I did not even consider the "buying experience". What can one expect when buying a Rolex? (I have never purchased before).

Bwahaha! I was "price shopping" (yes, stupid me) and 4 calls in I realized that the 2019 silver dial she likes is backordered at least 5 months everywhere. I panicked and immediately arranged a wire at the Vancouver location.

got to be in the AD. But as you walk in you must say "honey I got you something" or something appropriate. Let the AD know what's going on. Your styles are unlikely to match so you need to direct a bit towards your piece and she will appreciate the effort.

OR you could just take her in and let her decide.
Either way you are doing a good thing.

That's what i did. In the end she preferred a Frankenwatch from my NYC friend.

Call the AD, tell them you are coming and to have THE watch ready. Browse around for a minute, say you don't see anything and then have them go pull it from behind the counter. Suggest she try it on, ask if she likes it, when she says yes, say great because that one is already yours. The shock factor will set in, then you can make sure it is her favorite.

Simply tell her you are buying her one and let her pick it out.
Bet her choice is nowhere near what you had in mind she would like.

THEN you can make sure? You'd better be pretty sure already.

If you can't pick up the watch in advance then sure, stage something at the AD. If I were doing it I'd rather go out to dinner and present it separately.

Work with the AD on the surprise so that you have fully prepaid, not sized the watch and can exchange alternate in the day with the wife.

Then present the gift somewhere not at the AD, hotel room if you need safety or out and about on your 10 yr date. Give her a “purse” as the gift instead with the Rolex inside.

"I've picked it out and its a Platinum Daytona, can you just wire me the $65k back into my account...thanks hun x"...

Just be prepared if she says she really doesn't want the watch. I went through this after buying a car for my wife and arranging a surprise delivery with the salesperson. I got the surprise!! Back the car went.

Call the ad ahead of the time to forewarn them and ask of they can make it a little special for her....ask them to get some champagne on ice and make sure they know hers and your name to make her feel vip...good luck hope it goes well
