2020 Audi RS6 Avant Finally Comes to America
600hp Super wagon, and that's just the base model.
Probably not big news to many here but I've wanted this wagon for well over a decade and now finally Audi has decided it's time. It's definitely made me restructure my purchase plans as I was planning for a GT3 in 2-3 years but this will likely take it's place now. Will have to see how they price it with options because if they get ridiculous then I'll be staying with the GT3. Thank you Audi. Love the advertising for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8gw8B939Eo And a random youtube video for some visuals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoWU7FveYjs |

Contender for best car in the world. It’ll transport a family of five plus luggage, without handling like a boat (ahem, like an SUV, *cough*) and keep up with a supercar on a track. I absolutely love the styling cues on this, in particular the lights and the lack of chrome surround on the grille.
A bog standard A6 is on the wife’s hit-list for next car. I wonder if I can persuade her to consider this? FWIW estimated base price over here £85k, which is pretty competitive compared to the M5 and the AMG E63.

I watched that whole advertise for this, what an incredible video. Makes me want to go out and order one. It is visually stunning and so practical. Love it.
Funny enough, a friend of mine picked me up in his RS7 yesterday and it sounds so muscle car like. Thanks for posting You need to get one, just like this one! |

Audi has gone all in with this vehicle, it really is a super wagon. All new Audi tech is available and design wise it is a master piece as no other wagon has managed to actually look good. The Mercedes E63s is still a smidge faster, but rather ugly and boat like. You can also spec this with an all black/carbon package. |

Petrol S6 would be perfect. In fact we were all set to get an S4 before the emissions scandal thing ended up messing up the supply of various Audi models last year.
Unfortunately Audi have destroyed the new S6 (and S4) in the U.K. by only offering them with a diesel engine

I know you have that beautiful AMG beast and I tried to like the AMG Avant but the back end is atrocious and the vehicle is quite thin in stature and also tire choice. Audi made this vehicle super wide, flat and with thick cascading fender flares and thick wide tires. I think I read the vehicle is more than two inches wider on each side than the non RS. It has great presence with it's forward angled back vs the standard sort of vertical squared back most wagons have. |

I know, quite a contrast. My choice isn't based on needs per se nor will I actually track either as a regular event (well other than a fun day with the GT3 at a track once or twice).
My passion is based on being a car enthusiast and the passion I have for certain vehicles and what they offer. Both these vehicles stimulate me equally and would bring me joy but for different reasons. The GT3 is a slight turn off because buying one can be a pita with dealer allocations and build slots. |

Comparing this to a GT3 is not logical as they see different purposes. The GT3 is a weekend backroad carver or track monster. The RS6 is meant to gobble up miles of highway at crazy speeds.
GT3 for the weekend getaway with the wife. RS6 for family road tripes. |

To be clear. I am not comparing these two, not sure where one vs the other is going. I can use both as a daily and both for road trips with the wife, neither will get thrashed on a track.
My purchase decision is financial and based on my pleasure as an enthusiast for motor vehicles, much in the same way I own a Deepsea and don't dive. When the time comes I will simply choose the vehicle that can give me the most pleasure in ownership, not which can carry bicycles and luggage or which is faster at mid-corner apexes. Much like my Deepsea which is a daily wearer I can use either of these for my lifestyle needs. |

Does anyone know why as a wagon it doesnt have more trunk space (with seats up)? 20 cu ft is ~ the same as the A5/S5/RS5 sportback.

From the looks of the reviews there is plenty space in the rear for two large luggage and a few extras. I feel the space is adequate for this vehicle and what it offers, certainly more than a Panamera and maybe more than a Cayan Coupe or M5, which are cars that can be cross shopped. There's also a roof rack and rear tow hitch available, both which I would never use. |

This is exciting and a long awaited entry into this market. Kudos to Audi - this coming from an E63S AMG wagon owner.
Any chance this will come in a manual? |

Without a doubt a phantastic car, but you‘d have to throw around 500kgs more into the corner than on a GT3.
On paper they may be comparable and maybe on a straight road, elsewhere not really. |

Your AMG is a monster, and MB seem to have one of the best transmissions and awd applications with their 4matic+, the styling is the only area this particular AMG falls short. I was planning on a GLC 63s SUV but sadly discovered MB for some absurd reason doesn't bring the SUV stateside, only the coupe, so it was a no-go for me. |
