I've always liked that strap. I think it goes really well with that color dial.

I moved the 8 some for all to see what it might look like.

i disagree, your image has created a straight line between the 7&9 and clearly shows the 8 at a dissimilar relationship to the edge of the dial vs the other eleven numbers. not subjective at all imho

Good job on the photo.

However I think it looks awful. Maybe Patek could brand this the "Extra Special" dial.

Gus, I agree with you, but my point was that others were disagreeing with regard to the placement of the 8. My point was to move it over a little so others could see what it might look like, I had no specific precision regarding its placement, just moving it over as one person was contending. Also the dial is at an angle so it really isn't a great shot.
We could argue that the tip of the 7 is closer to the edge than the 6, and others as well. There is a curvature to the number placements, which is hard to recreate on an angled dial. I was just doing a quick move to be helpful, not trying to recreate the dial.
Also, many/most contentions here are subjective, which was my point regarding that.
Cheers.

You’re right Karl. It was remiss of me to forget about the colour temperature balance affecting the tone.
Still think I’d prefer a blue or dark grey strap, rather than the brown/tan one.

Yes. This will hurt the market for the 5524 if anything. My 2 cents.

I don't think so. There are only 600 of them. I'm getting this and still
Am getting 5524. Not sure if I will keep both but for me personally, this does not replace the 5524

However 600 still means each AD in USA will get 5-6. That's more than any have received on a 5524. So by extension the 5524 has been more limited than the Limited Edition. Obviously that will catch up over the years as more 5524 filter into the market. The other view is the 5522 has now drawn attention to the malaligned 5524 and thus created a favourable awareness that may drive more to wanting to get a 5524 and thus longer waiting periods. If I remember the 5524 is cheaper than a 5164R

As much as I like the 5524, I am not ready to make a $50k+ purchase on a single watch which makes the 5522 an attractive alternate solution at its price point.

I couldn't pass it up when I saw it was 42mm.

But as Tex stated. I'll only know I got it when I actually get it.
Thanks for the info gents! I guess I'll just have to wait for an update from my AD then. (hopefully soon )

I never thought that I would ever say that a $21k watch is good value for the money, but then again this hobby makes us say/do some crazy things

Good luck to both of us in sourcing this beauty!

I have a feeling these won't be going to customers like us but they can't stop us from trying

Life's too short for me to get bitter about it. I'm just glad Patek is making watches that excite me.

Quite the opposite, it will help sales of 5524 because that is what most people outside of US can hope to get after falling in love with 5522. unless 5522 turns to a production model without the print on the caseback but I don't think PP would do this to American collectors..

Does it happen before? a limited exhibition piece becomes a production model with minor/no modification.

5524 is already very hard to come by and i think it may take 2-3 years for PP to produce and ship out all 600 of 5522, on average 2-3 piece a year in a bigger AD..

I disagree my friend. My best guess is these are ready to ship and will be distributed by the end of the year and at latest first quarter of 2018. The WT Moon 175th Anniversary piece and Advanced Reasearch Aquanaut piece were delivered quickly. Just my 2cents

It’s the font they used – the same as the word “PILOT”.
You’ll also notice the “ is at the bottom of the P, rather than the top, which may signify something other than aesthetic choice by the designer.

The word ’Special’ used on the dial can be found on Zenith Pilot watches from WW2 era.
