A revisit of this thread FORCED me to take off my SMP and pull my Explorer II out of the box/safe where it had been since before my trip. I took some photos with my new camera, both before I reset the time/date and afterwards. What a difference a good camera makes!

Aw, thanks. It's fun having a big ol' watch, though I don't wear it too much.

I think you did miss the story - I probably drove everyone nuts with the pics and the bracelet sizing saga.... Finally ended up with a couple of leather straps to avoid removing a permanent link.

Oh I probably saw it, but suffer from "selective listening.

In the late nineties the explorer1 was selling for 10% over list at most ADs in canada they were the flavour of the month, just like the daytona used to be.

I looked at the Exp II before I bought my 116713 GMT but it just didn't "pop" like the GMT. If I ever become "an outdoor sportsman" and need that ruggedness, I'll get one!

Sounds pretty good to me. A grey dealer would ask way over that, especially for complete set i.e. box, papers & tags.

Post up some pics/more details of your intended if you would like some opinions

Cheers

Well, other considerations aside I'd be thinking that it's a good price, I'm helping a friend, and that I know the full history of the watch. I guess you could always move it on if you did not want to keep it. Good luck with whatever you decide

Cheers

The Exp II is a great travel watch.

Specially in Asia where some places are dangerous, the GMT with the Black/Red or the Black/Blue bezel stands out too much.

I prefer to wear my Exp II. I like them so much I got both the black dial and the white dial.

Prices in Japan for the White are lower than for the Black by about $100 to $200.

I've been wearing my ExpII polar for a little over a month and I love it. I have noticed that when I'm talking with someone and using my hands for emphasis, that their eyes seem to key in on the watch. I then have to drop the arm to my side and try to continue the conversation without using that arm. Now I know how my girlfriend feels when she's talking to me and I my eyes wander down.....
"Hey buddy, my eyes are up here...!"

Geeh, it's to bad that you are going to have to sacrifice and buy two watches. I know we all feel sorry for you and your predicament!!! LOL!!!

Thats what friends are for right? To help each other out. Its my girl friend I feel sorry for. The money for the explorer II was suppose to go to an engagement ring for her. Ooopppsss. Good job I have not told her.

So, which watch is more popular in Japan; the black or the white? Where I live, in Europe, I rarely see (in real life) any Explorers at all, and if I see any, it is either a standard Explorer, or a white Explorer II. On two occasions I've seen 1655's, but only once a black 16570 .

Best,

A

I just traded my white face explorer 2 in for a GMT2c. I had it for 10 years and it kept good time. I must say that it feels cheaply made compared to the GMT2c, esp the band. I also like the rotating dial on the GMT, much easier to set a new timezone (I travel a lot to Asia and use that feature often). I also scratched up the bezel quite a bit - one think I dont have to worry about with my ceramic. I did get $2900 for it on trade and it was well worn! I loved it while I had it, but now I dont think I would ever buy one again.

I have a white dial E2, I wouldn't mind having a black dial E2 to go with it.

Part of me is jonesing for a black-dial Explorer II as my travel watch, but it must have lug holes. I think I would prefer it over the GMT because it does not look like a dive watch.

Several execs at my office have discovered the Explorer II is a great travel watch.

The Black is the more popular dial for the Daytona & Exp II .

Prices for the black are more and the second hand market is much better.

With the Milgauss, my Grey Dealer told me that they wont even trade in a White Milgauss as it's simply not selling.
