Sorry to bring this back.... This is the story that made me appreciate the SEA-DWELLER that much more, and after searching for the last few weeks I've found it!!! Now I'm happy to say I own one, a Z series, and I hope one day my son, or grandchild will be able to tell a story such as this one!
Best Regards, Jose. |

I sincerely wish your son or grandkids are a fair bit more levelheaded than the OP.......

Hey dadswatch72: If you decide to sell it, find me and I will buy it for top dollar, even with missing parts. If you decide to fix it, you are looking at $2500- 3000 for new bracelet, new bezel and ring, new insert, new crystal and service.

Wasn't around when he was banned but did hear quite a bit about this dadswatch guy:). He did appear on vrf a few days ago asking what his watch was worth in the current economic climate though. Doesn't cost to dream does it, well, till dreams get spoken out loud;)

Thanks for mentioning that the OP posted on VRF a couple weeks ago. I was quite amused to read his post there, as he has definitely toned down the hyperbole about his DRSD.
Here's a Cliff's Notes of this saga: It was/is a genuine DRSD. OP sent it to the NYC RSC for service and to replace parts. Got it back, thought it was the nicest DRSD in the world and became even more of an insufferable boor and post whore (he knighted himself as some sort of DRSD expert based on reading the DRSD website endlessly, but only having personally handled one Rolex in his lifetime). Priced it at $50K, then dropped it in $500 increments to $45K. I and a host of others pointed out that RSC paperwork (notice he kept every frigging piece of modern, easily obtainable paper and brochures they sent to him) does not increase the value of a vintage piece like an original guarantee, etc. I also advised him that no one in the universe would pay such a huge premium for a DRSD that didn't have crucial period correct parts like the fat font insert, bezel, tritium pearl and bracelet. But the real indication of what a piece of work this guy had become is when he questioned Jed's opinions around what an unmolested DRSD would look like. Jed had posted pics of a "time capsule" DRSD he owned that had basically been put away unworn after it was originally purchased. The OP argued that the pics were incorrect, as his DRSD was the most premium example around of unmolested chamfers/bevels and he had never seen a DRSD case back that still had the black paint filling in the engraved/embossed lettering. OP posted the pics on VRF in a thinly veiled attempt to cast doubt on Jed's primo example, and was rightfully laughed off of the forum. If you want to read the thread on VRF, just scroll back in their archive to March 28, 2010 and have yourself a good chuckle......

Pics of Jed's NOS DRSD are in the VRF thread I mentioned above. Just keep clicking back to the last page until you hit the date it was posted, and read/look to your heart's content.

Well, at least I learned DW72 still has his father's DRSD, is still considering selling it and miracle of miracles he's now calling it near-mint instead of some kind of grail piece. And a few more people saw Jed's true grail DRSD.
