look at the anniversary Sub back to 2003 ,a nice fat hand and indexes and new bezel colour ,everybody was happy.
I can see several versions of the 5711 that would have worked just fine as the 40th, or even the 50th anniversary model, one that would not require using diamonds on the dial 5711/1P with a graphite gray dial. A simple additional twist may have been to turn the dial wheel colour around (dark background, white numbers). It would have made a much more distinct model (compared to the existing 5711/1A and the also existing 5711/1P) than the emboss dial 5711/1P. I know blue is a fancy colour that most people would choose over other colors, but still, I'm getting tired of blue Pateks.

Patek could also remove the seconds hand, even while retaining the current 324Sc movement. A solid caseback would have been a great twist too, just as Patek installed such casebacks on the 175th anniversary models. 3rd idea: remove the seconds hand and the date as well, maybe even use a stripped-down micro-rotor movement (Cal 240), and make an ultra-thin Nautilus.

Patek is suppose to be discreet, the "math" should be elsewhere such as engraved in the back.

Nailed it early Paul...disappointing for sure.

Think PP will allow a dial swap on the 5711?

Some kind of reference to 40th Anniversary on the rotor or back of the case would have been just fine

I've mellowed out a bit on the 5711p since yesterday. Still isn't for my taster, but for those that like the dial are very lucky. A platinum nautilus is awesome no matter what.

Think I agree with you. Probably find the embossing is very discrete. Yesterday was a no, next would be a maybe and a year later Dang wish I had put my name down

You could hedge your bets and put your name down. No doubt you would have the right of refusal if you didn't like it when it came in.

I stand corrected but you pay when it's about a month aaay, the. They prepare the papers in your name. It is a fair point you can always say no if you make the allocation list but doubt they will shortlist you again if you do that!

Yeah fair point, not worth ruining your chances for something different in the future.

This really depends on who has the leverage, the AD or the collector. Many ADs, including the 3 Salons, know they share some of the very high-end clients.

There are a limited number of "mega-collectors" out there and Patek knows them on a first name basis. Just like there are a limited number of "whales" in the casino industry, I believe there are "mega-collectors" who are very valuable to ADs because the collector has brought in so much business to the AD over the years.

However I agree that for the rest of us, it is not a good idea to apply for a special LE piece from an AD and back out at the last minute. ADs do understand that things happen, but this can lead to a difficult situation for the AD having to sell an often high-priced LE application watch with someone else's name on the certificate.

No disrespect to Karl, but I don't think he's a mega collector (yet anyway, who knows how in the future!)

Certainly not And I doubt in the future!! However whilst there are mega collectors who buy one of each I am sure that PP does allocate to the "unwashed masses". They try to get the balance right. For these collectors it's more the ego of recognition that they get the allocation but I think they are probably bitching about who got the 7 allocated 5175's last year versus a 5711P...anyway if they don't phone me it's their loss!

OK, I think it's fair to say we generally feel disappointed with the two new limited editions.

I also think most people like the current Nautilus collection. However, back in 2006 the current collection had a pretty lukewarm reception: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...87#msg_2209203

Food for thought. We are a tough crowd!

I would love to have either one. Not a fan of the inscribing on the dial, but I loooove the diamond markers on the blue dial.

Just having a bit of fun with you Karl and I know you are not a Patek VIP. But seriously, the 5930 and 5524 are two of my favourite watches from Patek recently, looking forward to your 5930 incoming.

How about the Zenith Range Rover edition thst JCB recently launched wearing the new yeezy trainers. it's very sad to see the way Zenith has and continues to be mismanaged....

On a seperate note - have you guys seen shameonwrist on instagram. One of the best watch related instagram accounts!!

Bottom line is that collectors wanted a 5711P due to the limited production numbers of the 1st. Then how to you protect the original owners you have to change it a bit so you add the diamond batons and the add those dates to the dial. Both sort of make my food curdle but I bet once you see it in the metal it will be fine and understated. Ihave no doubt they will sell all of them. Not sure how they chose 700 but must be a reason!

Sounds perfectly logical, but I would have changed it a bit more. For example, a gray dial would have differentiated the watch a lot more from the "old" 5711/1P than the current solution. Not to mention Patek seems to be over-using blue colour lately. 5524G, 5930G, 5327G, 5270G, and now these 2 new models. Gray dial works fine for other platinum models (5140P, 5146P, etc), so I'm sure a gray dial 5711 would look great too. IMHO a gray dial 5711/1P would have protected current 5711/1P owners slightly more, and maybe, just maybe it would have been more desirable too due to being more unique.
