Tom, this has been an extremely long wait for you. You handled it much better than I would have.

This after receiving a very heartfelt PM from Otto my fellow Gaijin Bro up in Tokyo. He said, Tom you should follow up with the Police and check in. Thank you Otto.

So I am on the way to work and I have to go around a police car that has someone stopped. I am thinking. Ok... Then no more than 10 minutes later I pass by another police car that has two people stopped and they are out of their patrol car talking with them on the sidewalk, again blocking my path. Call me crazy but I went home after work and called the police.

I got voice mail.

No worries. I came home today and called and got the detective helping out on my case and he says to me, " I was just going to call you, we found your watch yesterday."

So evidently the person who "found" it or stole it pawned it. The pawn shop after paying this guy however much they did found out it was stolen. Not sure at this point whether they contacted the police or some diligent detective checked in. Either way my watch is being held at the pawn shop.

Per the detective I spoke with today this is how it goes down in Japan. I have to go to the pawn shop with the police and prove that it is mine. No problem. I have photos, box, papers, both hang tags with serial number on the green one, bezel cover, the FedEx box that DavidSW shipped it in, the receipt from FedEx for the import duties paid and the report from the Rolex RSC that I made notifying them that it was stolen.

The detective told me that since the pawn shop owner is out a bunch of money I may have to offer compensation. Before anybody gets mad on my behalf (and thank you) I told the detective that is not going to happen. The pawn shop took in my stolen watch. They can try and recover the money from the thief. Cost of doing business.

Anyway I will be reunited with my WG Daytona soon! Can't wait to see the condition that it is in after my fall.

Here is the original thread when I told you all that I had it stolen.

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=397832

Thank you all for your prayers and positive thinking for me. Please keep it up as I move into the next stage of getting my WG Daytona back from the pawn shop.

By the way if you remember in my first thread I tried to warn the pawn shop, ( the very one that now has bought my stolen WG Daytona) and they blew me off.
Congratulations Sir !

Update.

Those of you waiting for a pic, sadly you will be disappointed. Not more than me maybe but disappointed.

I went down a half hour early and waited. Right on time at 1:00 I met with the detectives. They confirmed with all the items I brought, box, papers, tags, FedEx documents that the watch was mine. They did not have the watch. It is still at the pawn shop. After confirming that I am the legitimate owner they are going to recontact the pawn shop and make an appointment for me to go and get my Daytona back.

I then have to go to the pawn shop to get back my Daytona. Here is where it gets a bit tricky. They have to give it back to me per the detectives but they could play hardball and ask for me to pay them up to half of what they paid the thief. I found out how much they paid. 1,750,000 Japanese Yen. The thief made a killing! That is about $14,583.00. Now I could tell them no I won't pay and they can hang on to it maybe and then we all have to go to court for years. Per the detectives they are doing their best to see that I pay them nothing. If the pawn shop handles this politely and professionally I will reward them even though I don't have to.

Also I found out that the pawn shop chain that I warned is not the pawn shop where the thief took the Daytona. He was smart enough to go way out into the countryside and pawn it at a different chain of pawn shops. The watch was pawned on Jan 5th. I made a police report January 1st to include the serial number. The police did not input the serial number into the system until January 8th which I guess in a way is lucky for me because if it had been in the system the pawn shop would not have taken it maybe? Once the pawn shop saw it in the system they contacted the police and reported that they had it. So kudos to them. The police then issued a "warrant" they referred to it as that ordered the pawn shop to hold it. That is all I can say on that right now.

As far as the criminal side of the investigation I cannot comment anymore on that for now. They know who the guy is that pawned my watch and that is all I can say about that right now.

The detectives will call me back and tell me when my appointment is with the pawn shop. Draining I know, but I am still feeling good and happy with this procedure. It is not my country and I have to do it their way. Which means patience and I can't go in the pawn shop and be a pissed off foreigner. I have to handle this right and it will all work out. I have supreme confidence in the detectives.

That is all I have for now. The appointment with the pawn shop will be late this week or early next week.

Thank you all for caring.

I should also say that I am guessing that the Daytona is in good shape. They gave the guy what a grey dealer would have given me for it with box and papers. So it must not be damaged badly.
