The model name on the bezel is hideous! It's an ugly watch, I'm sorry if I offend anyone.

It could have been a stunning watch. The white dial/blue bezel combination is interesting.

There is no identity/history to it. Nobody is looking for one....unlike a Sub, a GMT or a DJ.

The watch is underrated according to the internet because of useless complication, large text and colors.

Comes in different color options, text is tiny only looks big in pictures and would be impossible to see on someone else's wrist and no one that I know races in the Daytona or dives for long periods of time or dives enough to need a high end expensive watch to help them in anyway.

Love my YMII and couldn't be happier.

Same as saying everyone is looking for an
Accord or an f150.
Anyone for Maserati or Aston Martin?

its identity is its a fancy watch, like how people actually wear their modern Rolex. The others reach back to their long lost past of being tools.

One is authentic and one is grasping at what it use to be. Like an athlete past his prime.

thats the other side of the argument. I still dont like it. I totally get the intent of it though. Its got some design issues i dont like. However, thats why i like the regular YM too. Same concept. Fancy sub.

I don't think it's underrated at all. It's a large watch with a bold design that's not very similar to anything that Rolex has produced in the past. I also think having "Yacht" in the name turns off some people.

It's possibly Rolex's most advanced movement and it's clearly a high quality watch. However, with the above, would you expect it to be super popular?

Why is Yacht Master II so underrated? simple answer not internet hyped like say the 16610LV with flat four fonts.

Motorboats

I don’t know about the rest of you but when
I see a post about a Yacht-Master, the Sub variant is what
I expect.

The Yacht-Master II should have been called the Sail-Master
Or something else.

People in South Florida talk about “Yachts” they usually have a
Fly bridge and Twin diesels, not masts and booms.

As well as having a complication that few use and ever fewer need.

It is the price tag.

Won't see so many haters if it's price is close to the Sub :-)

Good point. I remember the hate for skyd when only in PM. Then the ss was released, and now everyone wants one and they are hard to find.

I really start to fall in love with this YM II...
I’ve been too much after these hard-to-get SS-models—not anymore.
I feel that many ss-models are actually quite dull&boring.
The YM II has a true character of its own!

*) In 1978 I bought a 1675 GMT Master....that time nobody was eager to buy this "very / to much colorful watch".....it gave me 41 years of daily pleasure ....now it has a 44 fold original value.....and has a unique patina.
*) In 2012 I purchased a 2007 16610LV / Kermit....that time nobody was particularly interested; the green inlay was widely typed "strange / uncommon".....it gave me a lot of fun....I gave it to my son....he now is very happy with it....now it has a 3 fold original value (in 7 years).
*) I believed in the potential interest of the Kermit and therefore in 2013 I purchased a 2007 NOS / in the seals 16610LV.....I keep it in the seals....now it has a 3 fold original value (in 6 years).
*) I think that the 16680 YM II is an extraordinary and exclusive Rolex because of its exclusive style elements within the existing Rolex program and the very unique caliber.
The 16680 YM II is widely unloved and ignored by the existing "common" Rolex owners who are focused on Daytona's, BLR'S, Deepsea's etc.
I have the feeling (but can be wrong) that the 16680 YM II in the future once will become a strong sought after model due to the unique appearance and the low numbers available on the market.
Once imo it will be an exclusive item between the Rolex models that in the meantime generally are more colorful and that specific accents / typical model accents will be widely accepted.
Since a couple of weeks I own a 2014 YM II with the typical / in future most favourable (imo) performance "Blue Hands" .....I have a normal wrist for a 76 year old guy; it wears very comfortable....it is a beauty in all aspects and becomes more attractive when time goes by....I like to take an extra look to it many times a day....

In my view, Rolex watches are like of lot of high-end/luxury/aspirational things --sometimes they are the ugliest, most hideous designs I could imagine. Sometimes, though, they knock it out of the park. Ecco shoes are a perfect example of that notion....

For whatever reason, although I can appreciate that the YM II is gaudy and audacious, it's obnoxious in a way that I find appealing. The only reasons I haven't pulled the trigger are because I don't love it enough to need it, and slight concern that it's too big for my 6.75" wrist.

But it is on my list for "definitely maybe someday."

It should have been called the Rolex Egg-Master for its programmable ten minute countdown function.

Lol. How about Flip-Master?

Joking aside I think it looks OK. Just a bit expensive and other watches I’d rather buy first.

oh I completely agree. the YMII should be in a collection vs just a single Rolex to own.

It's the only Rolex I own currently but that's because I upgraded from the original Yacht-Master and fell in love with the II years ago so yeah

On a side note, a young nephew of mine who knows I'm into watches. Especially Rolex, bought me a 50mm Armitron chronograph quartz watch for Christmas. None of my watches even come close to 50mm. Not wanting to disappoint him since it's the thought not the gift that counts. I've been wearing it the last several days. Long story short. The 50mm size is somewhat growing on me. It's really not that bad.
That's the greatest gesture of gratitude. We are few of the fortunate to have these fine timepieces however this particular gift best describes our flexibility in life.
With regards to YM2 SS. If you like it get it, who knows in the next decade this will be sought after because nobody likes it now however time changes so it could be the opposite in the future.

I'm not against big watches per se. And I'm not against owning a flex watch per se.

But the YM is just tacky. It's not underrated ... it's properly rated as the red-headed stepchild of the Rolex family.

Just one man's opinion.

It’s a fun watch. Love mine, and comfort is supreme. All these people yapping about it’s functions, as they wear their sub and couldn’t tell a dive regulator from a dive weight.
