Just stumbled onto this thread by pure chance, and just saying that we drank a lot of the same seawater! I, too, always admired the Rolex Submariner and served on subs, USS PINTADO (SSN 672), USS GUITARRO, (SSN 665), AND USS SEA DEVIL (SSN 664), was later commissioned after making Chief (nuke) and did 24 years retiring as a LCDR LDO, then working for DOD/USN for another 18 years. My wife, now of 43 years, was 'issued' by the Navy as we met at NTC San Diego in IC 'A' school, gifted me a brand new 14060M Sub on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary in 2005. I try to not be too taken with material items, but 18 years of wearing it daily, it remains my most treasured possession. I really enjoyed reading your sub journey - oh, and I knew guys off Von Stueben.

I'm glad you found the thread, as I really enjoyed reading your sub journey! You are a true submariner, sir, while I only hung around for a few years. Thank you for your many years of service!

Your watch has sentimental value on so many levels. I'm happy that you finally got a Submariner of your own; you earned it!

Michael, really enjoyed your thread - read the whole thing. I tend to try to not 'rate' anyone's service as we all took the oath and went where we were sent and did what we were told. Besides you and I both earned our dolphins! Dive, Dive, submariner brother!
