I think so too, by a hair.

When I look down I think I'm wearing the white gold at first so that might be it. It also touches the wrist in more places which tends to keep it just a bit more stable.

I would not trade an 11 away to a 12 though. No chance.

The measurements I took were repeatable across tangent surfaces showing the span of the watch on the wrist in both directions.

Your request is a curve to a dissimilar curve using one of the two as a tangent and the measurement will not be repeatable without an incredibly narrow caliper or lidar.

10 o'clock is a curve just at the bezel edge and 4 o'clock is a pusher pump.

11 to 5 are lugs.

10 to 4:21:30 is a not quite diameter resting against a pusher. Any contour difference is the lug (and there is one) will throw this off.

I’m not saying your measurements were not accurate or repeatable.

Much has been made of the 22 case being 1 mm larger. Just as the PM case on all but YG on oyster has been.

That 1mm appears to be due to the new cases being symmetrical. To dismiss the symmetrical larger crown side lugs as cherry picking is missing the point of the case differences.

Which is why I asked for a picture of each from the case back side. Lug fall off/curvature aside that’s where the biggest case differences lie.

Lug to lug is more important for many than SEL to SEL - if you accept that the SEL is part of the bracelet.

Your measurements are really appreciated, thank you. However without the diagonals and lug to lug they only tell part of the story.

I appreciate that the diagonals are hard with Daytonas but they would indicate the differences between references with the same measuring device.

Here’s a pic of my 116509 versus a SS asymmetrical case. Be good to see if the new SS is the same as or similar to the “old” PM case.

If the 12 series had the thicker sub dials of the 11, I think it’d be my favorite. Right now, I like both equally.

How could Rolex destroy their most beautiful Daytona watch? Speachless.

Major tick is 5 mm, minor is 1 mm.

Axis label is cm.

Photo was taken level with 3x zoom iPhone 14 at 1 meter distance.

A common complaint with the 11s was inability to tell the time. It could be that this was addressed. Need to see in the flesh. Wish me luck with that! I'll do likewise for yourself.

The 11 and 12 series Daytonas are both beautiful references in my opinion.

The 12 series reminds me of a speedmaster racing watch with the outer ring (white and black dials similarly available). Although I own and respect omega speedmaster watches, it’s hard for me to unsee that.

I thought when I had an 116500 white dial it was a little hard to read at first, but I got used to it pretty quick and had no issue after a couple weeks or so.

Wouldn't bother me either. I think when people are used to the instant readability of a Sub or whatever, in all lighting conditions any chrono can be a bit jarring.

I don’t own the old or the new. I would be happy with either. I do enjoy this thread and reading/learning about the differences. Hope to own one in the future and to anyone who owns either reference, enjoy your beautiful Daytona. They’re all pretty awesome.

Although imo the 116 looks better the 126 wears larger witch is a plus. The metal ring is also greatly exaggerated in pictures. On the wrist it’s hardly noticeable.

It reminds you of a Speedy but not a 4 digit Daytona like the 6263?

It is being reflected in market values. Despite a much, much lower current supply of the new dial there is minimal pricing spread. Black dial 116 at $28k (transacted) vs black 126 at $31k… the latter has almost no supply in the market (and of course 126 are newer watches with more warranty).

Very surprised the convergence was so fast… given the supply difference currently I thought it would take a bit longer.
This. I have also been very surpised about it.

I have yet to see the new one in person. But I dont think I like the outer ring. I sold my omega speedmaster because of the outer bezel ring because it used to reflect light and take away from the overall look of the watch.

I agree with you about the thicker subdials…so for now I favor the 11 white dial (but the black dials I can appreciate the same).
Clearly, everyone has their stated preferences, but ultimately the majority of us would be down with either if available.
…now in the future when Rolex releases a true panda dial, it will break the internet and social media.

Same here, when I wore my Daytona and looked down at my wrist it always felt as though I was wearing a woman’s watch. Rarely wore it and eventually sold it. If Rolex ever increases it to a more contemporary size as they’ve done with the Sub, then I’ll buy one again.

Are you aware that the Sub went from 40.2 to 40.5mm?

New one wears like a sub. The length is the same from the measurements I have seen. The 126500 definitely wears larger then the 116500.
