How could Rolex destroy their most beautiful Daytona watch? Speachless.

It wears like a full PM Daytona like my 116509. Very similar to the 116500 while looking bigger to the eye.

The sub 11 and 12 wear bigger still. Those lugs don't turn down so they fly off the flat of my wrist. In the side view the 12 series lugs extend down to the case back elevation. Subs and old Daytona do not. They stay in the elevation of the case side.

The Daytona touches my wrist on multiple sides depending on the angle of my hand. Stays put far better than a sub.

For whatever reason, I used to think Daytonas were kinda ugly. But that model's really grown on me and now I think they're pretty awesome. And, honestly, I like both the new and old styles. Especially with the white face - beautiful.

That new bezel metal ring is a ding magnet. My 116500 black has seen some hard wear and that bezel is perfect.

I saw it in the flesh three days ago and was underwhelmed. Seeled the deal on a new 2023 11 series, couldn't be happier

This has got to be the biggest Rolex fail I can possibly think of. Rolex took a perfect organic design and purposely ruined every aspect of the iconic Daytona. It’s like they are trying to showcase how much better the 11 series Daytona is/was with a “New Coke” exercise in marketing.

Epic fail with butchering the Daytona line. I am in disbelief Rolex could make so many design screw-ups their most perfect watch.

Oh man that metal edge around the bezel is a huge issue for collecting dings and wear marks. IMO….it adds nothing and becomes a liability.
The biggest “fail” is the beautiful organic case lines have been butchered into a now blocky supercase look? ??
A blocky Daytona?

You're totally wrong …. New 12 is the most beautiful daytona

The 11 series Daytona has now become incredibly special and “THE” SS Daytona.

Totally wrong my friend new 12 series is the most beautiful watch period…. I love mine …. And I just to have a black dial 11 series

I find it much easier to read the time with the 12?
Has anyone else found this to be true?

At the end of the day, I love all Daytonas.

By framing the ceramic bezel in metal, the watch takes on a more cohesive look. It's a stainless steel case and by ringing the bezel in stainless the bezel is much more elegantly integrated as compared to tacked on with the previous design.

I've worn Speedmasters for decades...the ring isn't a dent magnet just like it wasn't on earlier Daytona models. Such a bunch of drama over a slight change. If someone doesn't like the new one, wipe your tears, pull up your big boy pants, and just buy the old one for less money.

I'm saving Bold Red "Epic Fail Butchering" for something with a bit more gravity.

Also there is a “newer is better” mantra.

Likewise with people who own the previous generation - they want to preserve that what they own is the greatest thing ever, and they have maybe bought grey so value retention can also play a part here etc.

In between the above are the people who have weighted the pros and cons of each model and made a decision based on what they actually prefer and not of noise from social media etc. My advice is to give it time to try each model, see which one you prefer on the wrist, see the design of both in real life and then make a decision based on that.

Flawlessly said.

I started this thread 10 months and 45k+ views ago. A lot of digital media has been said about the topic since this thread started at ground zero release date.
I still prefer the 11 series Daytona by a significant margin. Now that we know the real sizes and measurements and the dust has settled it clarifies opinions even more. I like what I like without any underlining motives to prove such.
IF I thought the 12 series was the best for me I could easily make that happen in a switch. At this time I am very happy I own a 11 series Daytona.

Above pictures of the old 116500 Panda are amazing. Without the new Rolex model usual bias the beauty of the old 116500 over the new 126500 can't be denied in my opinion. Huge numbers on the new 126500 Panda list compared to old Panda owners will always tip the scale to the new reference if we implement the owners prefer what they have vs people on the list prefer new one rule mentioned by Deppe.

Your pics are amazing, but I would be proud to own and wear either iteration. I do not look at it old vs new, just like a Porsche 911, they are all classics and will never go out of fashion.

Spot on. I am glad we Daytona enthusiast are so passionate about the particular model regardless which generation. It always boils down to preference as we see these tiny details but a “normal” person couldn’t tell the difference.

Mystro your pics are better than rolex.com - totally amazing.

Thanks so much. Since it’s winter again I will post the most dangerous (stupid) watch photo I have ever attempted. A Daytona on a very thin sheet of ice over a fast moving creek. I was totally ready to drop my phone and go after my Daytona if it were to fall.

I’ll admit I’m not keen on the new case shape but I like the steel bezel ring. I’m also happy to see the dial return to the aesthetic of the 5 digit era.

Rolex refuses to make it perfect don't they. Leaves some tension.

Can’t go wrong with either, it’s just down to personal preference. For me the sub dials are more important than the new proportions so prefer the old 116500 panda. However for the black dial, I prefer the new one as has that vintage look and the sub dials make it look more like the 16520 zenith to me. They’re all great honestly.

I am indifferent with the hour markers, but the 11-series have the classic Daytona silhouette that can be traced all the way back to the 4 digits (sans crown guards) which, for me, gives it a lot of charm. Had Rolex decided to make the subdials even with 3/9 axis on the 12-series (or the 11-series for that matter) that would have been a huge plus for me.

However, it should also be mentioned that I, in general, prefer 4 and 5 digit Rolex’es, so this may be why the case shape is the biggest point for me.

Me too on the case

The more I compare the old vs new, the more entrenched my preference is for the 116. But I also prefer the black dial significantly in-person.

That said, I may add a 126 white dial in the coming years so while I have a preference I think both versions are very, very nice watches…
