With so many watch experts worldwide agreeing that a Daytona is in order, I don't know how she can possibly argue against it.

I'm having the surgery at Sanford-MeritCare in Fargo. The neurosurgeon is in his early forties and did his residency in Chicago as well as a two-year spine fellowship in Chicago. I immediately"clicked" with him and have a lot of confidence in him. (Not something I can say for the majority of surgeons I've known.)

Absolutely. A GTG sounds like fun.

I have had two lumbar disc operations. The best part is waking up afther surgery and realizing that the constant radiating pain in your leg is gone. The worse part is getting out of bed for the first time afther surgery. Good luck. I hope all goes well.

My initial disc bulge in 1996 occurred while standing in my office. The exacerbation six weeks ago happened while I stood in my garage thinking about washing the Ducati, and the big herniation eleven days ago occurred as I stood still on the dock watching some ducks.

Each time, I felt a "snap" like a huge rubber band breaking in my low back. Interestingly, none of my injuries ever resulted from weight-lifting, bending, twisting or otherwise being active.

Shocked to hear that you hurt yourself standing. How does this happen? Family history? I really hope you make a 100% full recovery Joey.

It makes no sense, given how physically active I generally am. I guess stuff just happens.

Sorry to hear about this. I know how frustrating this type of thing is, particularly for a person who has been physically active. Surround yourself with lots of good reading material and my guess is we'll be seeing a lot more of you here. My understanding is that recovery tends to be most effective when the patient purchases a new Daytona. Let us know whether you've chosen this remedy as part of your recovery process. Best wishes, Faith

It happens with age. The disks have a kind of gelatenous nucleus (nucleus pulposus) and a fibrous annulus (annulus fibrosus). As we age the nucleus begins to dry out and the disk doesn't function as well as it should which transfers more load to the annulus causing cracks in the annulus. Once the annulus cracks the nucleus begins to extrude out and impinge on the nerves.
Treating the lumbar spine is a billion dollar business.

I wish the OP a speedy recovery.

I'll post more tomorrow, but I had successful surgery this morning and am now back home in bed. Laying here is so much better than in the hospital, where I would have to pull four lines, appliances and tubes as well as a nurse along with me just to go into the bathroom. I think I've set a cumulative record for the shortest in-patient times for a lami and disc excision, perforated appendix and McVay hernia repair: one day total.

Joey, My best wishes to you! And I hope that when you get out of the surgery, first thing you'll do is RUN toward your AD to grab your Daytona!

EDIT: You got out of surgery. RUN TO THE AD!

Actually, I can't sleep a wink in a hospital room because of the noise, lights and crowds, and I hate asking for permission to have a drink of water or go into the bathroom.

Good for you Joey, now make sure your wife makes you some nice home cooked meals that are high in protein so you will have a fast recovery.
